  I am not sure if I posted this earlier, and Stark threads have gone into distant pages somewhere, so I thought I would post this.

  I sent Dr. Stark an email requesting information as to which of his publications discusses the JWs. I also asked him if he was aware of Penton and Franz's work. He replied that he knew Penton and thought his work was of good quality.

  He also stated, that he only wrote about the JWs in one article. It is in the Journal of Contempory Religion, 1997, Vol.12, pp 133-157. I am going to the library in a little while to see if I can find it.

  Good work. However, as far as I can tell that article is not the source pf the quote on the JW media page. Did you happen to ask Dr. Stark if those comments were an accurate reflection of what he said. If not, then would he supply his actual words. Also, does the WTS have permission to show his picture on their site?

  ps: I'm sure you mentioned Dateline, but I'd be very disturbed, were I in his shoes - to have my picture on a web site defending a religion on its child molestation protocols, when the religion is about to take a hammering on national TV precisely that: sexual abuse of minors by elders etc. Compounding the embarrassment is the media attention lately because of the Catholic Church.

  Went there & printed out the report by Stark. It's about 5-7 years old. Had many valid points - seen by an outsider. Some misconceptions.

  However, the whole report is on the GROWTH of Jehovah's Witnesses - and the reasons for that. For instance, he agreed that JW's are strict - and it helps them grow. "Get rid of the free-riders." Those that don't produce, kick them out. Works for business, works for jw's.

  Interestingly, I wonder if it works for real Christians - or just good people? If you don't produce, get out.

  I printed it out to read with my yellow highlighter. Some old jw habits die hard.

  excuse my ignorance on this issue, but can someone explain the molestation allegations to me? i just joined to d/b and i've been looking around and this is a big topic of discussion in many areas. i would just like to be informed of whatever FACTS are known about the subject, and what the dateline interview is all about. who's being interviewed?

  help educate me on this subject, i'm both confused and interested.

  I called the local library and they don't have the journal. However, someone sent me a link that may have it. Unfortunately, my webtv won't down load it, so I sent the email to my colleage at the university. I will see him Thursday afternoon and should have the article at that time.

  In the mean time, I am going to email Stark again, and ask if the quote is a complete one, and if not, if he would send me the complete record. I will also, tell him where I found the quote and ask him about the picture.

  I will inform him of the anverse effect of witness policy on the childre, and see what kind response I get.

  Nice to meet you. If you go to the different forums, you'll notice one entitled something like "Scandals..........." or similar. In there, you'll find many threads dealing with molestation & blood doctrine.

  Down at the bottom of this page, you'll see a click to SilentLambs website - a plethora of information & clicks to newspaper articles, etc.

  If you click on members (at top of page) click to SilentLambs or Bill Bowen, or ARoarer, Dungbeetle, etc. All of them are currently very active in the molestation situation.

  There is a current thread with the last word - ANDERSON. About 5 pages long - incredibly insightful to the situation currently happening.

  After that, take a break and go to the joke forum - let your mind relax. Nice to meet you!

  I printed it out - 32 pages long. "Why Jehovah's Witnesses growth is so rapid." Almost everything is geared to look at the reason for growth. All JW's could be on speed - and as viewed from that report - it's a reason for their growth, because that's what he's looking for - reason for growth.
