They mention that he's a Jw once and reference how easy it is to have access to children when you're part of jw organization.

The point I got, they are no different then any other religious
org.

They did a good psychological profile of McLean. I agree that the program was about capturing a criminal, not about wacky religious cover-ups.
What I wonder is whether the featured victim and her family are still JW's. They were awfully honest and direct, and said nothing to protect the image of the borg.

I wondered whether they were still JWs too.
I also wonder how much of their interviews ended up on the cutting room floor, maybe things were said that implicated the WTS and its policies, but they had to be left out due to time constraints. I'm glad his picture was given lots of air time. I'm also glad that they took the time to explain the grooming process in a rudimentary way - the pedophile spends a lot of time gaining the trust of the entire congregation, then latches on to the family whose child he is targeting. It's a very slow methodical process - very subtle - the girl said it was happening right under everyone's noses and they were none the wiser.
I hope they catch him soon.

ONe of the JWs mentioned "church" which makes me think they are still in.
I am not terribly informed of this and wasn't paying enough attention to the show (or maybe terribly is how informed I am,).. .but how did he have time to put all his 'affairs' in order? Was a report to police made?
Was the man that he stayed with in Arizona a JW?
Is he DFd? What happened to his family? Did he hurt them?

A few things:
A subliminal message showing JW's calling at a home. The householder comes to the door with her young daughter. The fact that potentially a pedophile could be at your doorstep, close to your young ones was conveyed.
Also, the victim, now an adult, referred to "the church," indicating she's no longer a JW.
The father of the victim stated that his ideal scenario would be for McLean to be caught and spend life in prison. He said fellow prisoners "know how" to deal with people like that. IMHO, an active JW would likely think that, but not say it on national tv.
Was is that mother that said the incidents had "torn the family apart?"
My guess is that the family are no longer JWs. Although it did not come up in the story, at one point, they were likely approached about protecting Jehovah's name.
Also, one more thing. How did McLean have time to sell his possessions before being indicted? That indicates to me a possible delay in reporting the crime.

I watched and where in the world would you come up about the watchtower paying CNN off?
The program is about catching a criminal not expose doctrines and policy.
Glad they ran it and JW were mentioned so that it might open somebodies eyes when they come and knock on their door.

Simon is right, John Walsh kept hinting at "Jehovah's Witnesses tight community" many times and alluded that Predators use them to have free access to innocent kids, what does that say about the Society claiming they have a "Spiritual Paraidise" rivaling all Christendom?
We need to chip away at their concept of a spiritual paradise, once people feel insecure and paranoid the walls will come a crumbling down! Thank you Simon for helping with this topic, I hate this man and know several sex-offenders strutting through the Kingdom Halls because they were safeguarded by the statue of limitations. What are the legal implications for putting up the names of pedophiles who were removed by the Watchtower but not the Police? We have a problem in my Kingdom Hall, there are two child predators who can't be used for anything but comment at the Meetings like their St. Paul!

JW's think they are the culmination of all human history and that the grand divine plan centers on them. After spending years inside this enormous echo chamber where that message is repeated endlessly, it is hard to adjust to the idea that the average non-witness thinks about Witnesses only when they bang on the door or set up shop in some public place. Most of the time that never think about JW's at all. No one watching this show cares about the religous aspect, they care a lot about catching pedophiles and Walsh's story correctly focused on that.
