This must be a huge expense for the parents of a large family but it must also be troublesome to many that would never have bought their younger children a personal computer because of the lack of control.

The WT jw.organization didn't care about mass media for years. they could have marketed their book selling religion by means of television and internet all those years ago and didn't. all this hullabaloo over jw.org and bringing IT to the people in the D2D work is just more distraction. let's make this a special year.let's have a special campaign to coincide with the invisible king ruling an invisible kingdom in celebration of 100 years of nothing happening. Wee!! wee!!__international conventions too. more distraction.
magazine trolley carts have replaced the street witnessing when you would approach people. now you sit and wait for people to b approach you. not very proactive in such an urgent TimE

It's very noticeable when you're giving an item on the platform.
In the past you would refer to a scripture and wait until the page rustling had stopped as a cue that everyone had found the verse.
Now there is no rustling at all.I remember not so long ago being told "We can't use tablets on the platform because we will be running ahead of Jehovah's chariot".
Seems like that chariot finally caught up with modern technology.Splash.

My elderly JW aunt went out and bought one ( a Nexus 7 ) a few months ago. She hasn't a clue how to use it and couldn't really afford it , but she says everyone in the KH has one. She's a nice person - been a JW for 50 years and all her friends are JW so there really isn't any point telling her "the truth" is all a big scam.
I ran through a few things with her - showed her how to find JW.org , put the WT library on it , but she was totally confused. Last time I spoke to her she said she had just put it in a drawer and decided not to bother with it. I'll probably buy it off her & give it to one of my kids so she doesn't lose out. It's quite sad really - I think the Society are kind of pressuring people to buy one.

This new approach is great. It cuts down on wasted paper, which helps Watchtower profit margins, as well as the environment. Watchtower needs to save costs, which is driving this reliance on technology, but in the end it will cause more harm than good, as access to the internet also gives access to education, other viewpoints, worldly friends and porn.
Once upon a time, Watchtower used to boast about their huge printing numbers. As it all moves on line, their printing will decrease. The 7 million downloads of a magazine sounds unimpressive to a young JW that knows gangnam style had over 2 billion views.

I am willing to bet they will not say how many downloads there are.
They used to trumpet the circulation numbers for WT and Awake!, when we all knew that at least half of them were up on the shelves of witnesses who didn't want to drop the magazine count.

The tablet mania doesn't really fit in with the counsel to keep the PC in a central public location in the home because of the temptation of interporn.

@newdawnfades that's what I think about all the time. One contradictary statement after another and JWs just can't see it.
