I was really looking forward to it. The trailer I saw made me think it was going to be really good. It kept my interest, but it was nowhere near as good as I was expecting.
Does anybody know where they got the parts of the story that are not in the Bible (at least the canon I'm familiar with). For example, they indicated that the giants were fallen angels who protected Noah. Did these parts of the story in the movie come from ancient writings or were they just fabricated?
I thought it was a drag. I was bored duing long streches of the film. It was interesting how they incorporated Evolution into the story. The "angels" reminded me of the trees from LOTR. I think the "extra" parts were taken from Apocrypha books. All in all I gave it about 1 1/2 stars. Looking forward to Exodus Gods and Kings.
The idea that the Nephilim helped Noah get the wood was laughable.
I didn't like the storyline of Noah wanting to kill 2 baby girls and I thought the drunkeness scene could've been a lot better.
And the bad guy sneaking into the ark and eating the animals was stupid.
I loved it.
Here is the review I wrote:
I thought it was a smart social commentary.
If you think you have received a message from God, how far would you be willing to go to carry it out?
What if that message was vague?
What if God didn't send you any more messages?
What if you think through the implications of your message, and the implications are horrific? Are you going to doubt God, disobey him?
How many people today think that God talks to them?
Shoot, there are a couple dozen on this board alone!
Maybe the world would be a better place if, like Noah at the end of the movie, people think twice about what religious messages they are so certain of.
I think it was a great movie.
The questions it asks or shows are thrilling (post of sir82).
The only thing I didn't like was how the "watchers" (fallen angels decribed in details in the book of enoch) are pictured helping Noah. That was pure fantasy and not even very good as they look like the "ents" from Lord of the Rings.
Aronofsky would have had enough spectacular elements if he shows the fallen angels and the nephilim like described in the bible and book of enoch.
I really loved how creation was shown, as I tend to believe in "theistic evolution.
It was one of the worst films i've seen for a long time, right up there with Trancendence.
I hated it.
I thought it was a load of *+#@* you get the idea. I think the film mahers were too influenced by ,"god knows what " and wasted special effects .
They could have used their special effects to transport and deposit animals to specific countrys around the word .
Maybe even using sea creatures such as whales in pushing or pulling the ark around the world to let specific animals off in lands that they are only found in today
Animals and vegetation only found in Australia
" " " " in New Zealand
" " " " Africa
" " " " Gall. Islands
etc.etc.
At least that would have made it more beleivable , made more sense .
