My c drive is running out of space. And to my surprise the Low disk space problem persists after I free up disk space on my computer. I uninstalled a lot of programs.I thought that I have free space on my C drive. However, now I am running lower and lower on disk space. I have defagged my PC disk and I don't want to buy a new PC. Is there simple way to help me out of low disk space problem on c drive?

The above, posted by A. Moore, is exactly what I am experiencing on my little DELL laptop. 74.4 GB total; 3.76 GB free space http://partition-magic.blogspot.com/2012/05/low-disk-space-on-c-drive.html Thoughts? Thanks! CC

PS: I had about 8 GB this morning before deleting unused programs, old docs, photos, etc.

Can you back up everything you want to discs, restore you system to "bring home" status, then see where you stand on disc space?

Same problem with my desktop computer. I used XP and had automatic updates turned on. I think that's what filled it up! I had very little of my own stuff in there, deleted programs, etc. it barely had enough memory to run a defrag or disc scan!

The windows updates are important for security reasons.

Delete your internet cache in IE, but also have a quick look in your profile and delete any sub IE folders; because every time your computer crashes while you are using IE, it seems to forget all the gumpth it stored up to that point.

74GB is not very much storage. Especially if you store photos or movies. Most new laptops come with 1,000GB standard.

You can buy 64GB SD cards for $30. Or an external hard drive for a few more $. Move all your personal docs and pix to the external drive or memory stick. This will keep your C: drive available for the OS. You should also see improved performance of your system.

It's disk, not disc. Memory is not the same as disk (disc) space. Go into explorer, right click on the drive, properties, choose disk cleanup. Empty the recycle bin, buy an external USB hard drive or thumb drive and move old files there or use Google drive or Dropbox and move old data there instead. Uninstall anything you don't use.

Thank you, FHN, ballistic, stillin, Vivianne and Stealth!

    Still at it . . .

Since I use Google Chrome only, can I safely remove IE?

    Gratefully,

Remember HotelKalifornia? He recommended I download and install CCleaner. It makes it easy to clean up unnecessary stuff, including unnecessary registry items and the caches in various browsers. It's free. It really helps.

I wouldn't uninstall IE. I don't use it but sometimes you need a backup browser so I leave it there.

    You can try :)

IE is integrated into Windows, you literally cannot uninstall it.
