Guess what *I* just got called?

  Talking to my cousin just now, she has been inactive for years...

  She told me she just started going back to the meetings, HARD!!! I asked her a one-word question--"Why?"

  She immediately flipped out on me, and said because she doesn't want to be responsible for her children's death at Armageddon (of course). She said "You are talking like an apostate!"

  I said to her, "You know, I am having a hard time ( [8>] ) with the ever changing teachings. Did you know it's now OK to vote?" After she denied it, I told her to check the Nov 1, 1999 QFR. Her response, was along the lines of "Light is getting brighter." I countered with "Jehovah's truth doesn't get truer. Man's interpretation changed." She continued with the 'Light getting brighter' crap until I said "Too bad the light wasn't bright for the brothers in Malawi and Mozambique."

  She said (GASP!) you have been looking at apostate websites! I said, NO I have been looking at the JW website! She said, "They DON'T even HAVE a website!!!! It's apostate!!! You are talking against Jehovah!"

  When I asked her what I had said against Jehovah, she replied "Jehovah's Organization IS Jehovah!" and told me she had to go, she doesn't even want to talk to me now.

  SIGH. The brainwashing is powerful. Apparently the message she is getting is, the internet is Satan's Toolbox. SIGH.

  Cheer up girl! You are LDH and all the good things that go with the name!

  YOU are concerning yourself with TRUTH and nothing else, so please don't feel bad. What more could Jehovah ask than that???

  It never ceases to amaze me the way Witnesses view the Society. And yet it is not their fault, this is what has been drummed into their heads year after year, meeting after meeting. It is so sad that people will put an orhganization on the same level as the Great Jehovah God or in some extremes, above Him.

  And yet they have the nerve to condemn others for the same actions, e.g. Catholic and the Popes. Sad indeed!

  Your story reminds me of two incidences with my JW sister. One time she told my wife that the reason I left was because I had hostility towards authority. My wife concurred and added that my reading of the JW history had an impact. My sister sucked in her breath and changed the subject. Her mind went shut. Another time she told me that I had too much pride and that I should humble myself. I told her that the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society should humble itself. Another gasp, another mind closed again.

  Now I know how my wife felt when I became a JW. None of what your cousin said deals with truth, reason, honesty, etc. You're right, the brainwashing is hard to get past. I hope she stays in contact with you.

  It's tough situation because she might have a breakdown just learning the truth about the WTS. Her trust, hope, dreams might be shattered. I hope she's strong enough to learn that the WTS is a fraud. My thoughts and vibes are with you.

  The funny thing is, I'm not trying to get anybody to stop being a JW. I just think you should be allowed to go into it with your eyes open.

  Lisa, ****HUGS**** So sorry about this thing with your cousin. I can't believe the whole mindset. So, she didn't say you "were" an apostate, but you just "sounded" like one. I guess she doesn't want to be held responsible for "judging" you. Unfortunately, the results are the same. She will look on you as a person to be dealt with VERY carefully.

  It is so sad.

  Cousin says, "I think any one that make decisions without leaving room for change is out of touch, I cant answer your question about disfellowshipping, but I can try and find out" (I asked her why our relatives wouldn't speak to my bro/sis since the official position is that dfing doesn't sever family ties)

  I said:

  You are very right. I was such a hard nose and so positive I had 'the truth' that I spent years of my life telling people about, now to find out it has changed so much, actually hurts. You KNOW I am smart, I don't make decisions lightly.

  Do you remember when you were working for that perfume company? And I looked for info on the Web, how much negative things came out about it, how fraudulent they were? How mad you were? Almost immediately you were able to see that there was more to their story than they were telling you. But what if they told you NOT to look on the internet, that anyone that disagreed with what they were saying was a liar, and a sore loser because they couldn't do the job? I bet you anything they deny everything negative said about them on the Web, but you know and I know it was true.

  Now I'm not saying it's the same thing. As a matter of fact, it's WAY more important than perfume. I'm just saying you have a right to know EVERYTHING about our history so you can make INTELLIGENT decisions and not have to be hurt like I am hurting now.::

  (side note: I HAVE to appeal to her emotions, she is a very emotional woman. She doesn't want anymore hurt, having a history very similar to Waiting's....Therefore, I keep telling her how much I am *hurting* hoping she'll take a closer look....)
