I don't care if it's teachings are false, I'd never leave because it's the best way of life.

Hi 4thgen, It sounds like someone has a severe case of cognitive dissonance. They may have serious doubts, but need help realizing that they don't believe the WTBTS.

I would ask them, "What are you afraid of? . . . (pause wait for a response) . . . Are you afraid of being shunned by JW family and friends? . . . (pause wait for a response) . . . Since you don't care if the WTBTS's teachings are false, does that mean that you do not believe that Armageddon will happen? . . . (pause) . . . [Continue asking simple questions to continue the conversation.]" How is their life better? If they were not JWs what would they like to do. Get a better education? Travel? Do a fun hobby?

Peace be with you and everyone, who you love,

    Robert

I used that very line of thought in the ministry when a householder challenged my beliefs using my own bible. I said no other religion shows unity and love for each other...for that reason alone I would never leave...man was I brainwashed and totally blind to the truth when it stood right in front of me.

To those that trot out "I don't care if its teachings are false, I'd never leave because it's the best way of life":

(John 4:24) . . .God is a Spirit, and those worshipping him must worship with spirit and truth.” Do you think the God of Truth would approve of being worshipped with falsehood?

If you really believe that a religion's teachings do not have to be true - just so long as you have a nice, moral life - why the hell do you criticize other churches?

I`ve heard that a lot,it`s a common saying among JWs..

It shows JWs are not interested in truth..

my father said similar many years ago and i think he felt there was no where else to go if this wasn't the truth and he liked the morals and brotherhood that he felt.

    he did leave.

I've heard this said a lot and I think I probably said it myself as well, but I feel that in reality this is a statement that can only make sense to an actual believer. Though there may be a few exceptions the vast majority of people who lose their JW faith are very frustrated or angry at their situation, having to keep your opinions secret is a horrible way to live but JWs don't consider this element when making such statements.

Some people prefer to live in denial. It's much easier than facing reality or making your own decisions. They've convinced themselves they live in truth or as close to truth as is humanly possible, but they do not bother with such things as reality.

How, exactly, is it the best way of life?
