Same to me.
Perry Rhodan all the time. I think - it was an escape from all the WT stuff at home.
As JW I had not much friends (all this bad wordly people) - and so I could escape from the reality into the world of SF.
This is a dumb topic.
Because Sci fi is cool.

And Star Trek is real... it just has not happened yet.

Heh, yes, Star Trek V could be considered a bit subversive.
In the 60's when star trek was first on TV my mother would make me turn it off because she felt it was demonic. So I would have to find times to watch it when she was not around. It truly was freedom for me to escape the Wt. Cult for a little while. When my wife and I had children we would watch star trek and star trek nex generation with our boy's. Then after the show we would talk about science with them and what things could happen. Again being so deep into the cult this was a little freedom from the cult. I think this is why many JW like Sci-Fi so much. Still Totally ADD
I think the bottom line reason is that it takes away from the drum beat of Watchtower activity and consciousness. Don't forget: Jehovah is a jealous God.
I think Sci Fi is an alternative to magic. Anything is possible with Sci Fi because it's all in the future. Magic is totally banned, but with Sci Fi you can disappear and reappear it can be put down to quantum leaps, or laser beams.
I am surprised Sci Fi is not branded as violence....lol it's nothing compared to some biblical adaptations.

I thought to myself, "Self, maybe you can get JW's to think about what's really manipulating them if you disguise apostate revelation
by spoon feeding it into a Science-Fiction novel with Russell, Rutherford, Franz, etc.

into seeing what is truly possible . . .
Imagination makes it safe. Fantasy cushions the truth.
We can all see the faults in others quicker than we can ourselves. By creating characters who work through the same situations
YOU are in, maybe . . . just maybe a light bulb will go off.

When I was growing up I would be told not to speculate about life on other planets and how we would live on a paradise earth etc. Science fiction is a healthy outlet for a curious JW boy. How does one look at the milky way and not wonder about other kinds of life?

NoMoreHustle, this is very true in my locale. Last year a pre-teen kid (of JW parents) won the costume contest at our area's Comic-Con with a pretty good redition of the "demonic" Edward Scissorhands character! Another sister that attended dressed as Princess Leia was later counseled by the elders for "idolatry".
