It is true that a great many dubs under ,say 40, just love science fiction. I read a thread on JWTalk (very pro J W) and they decried "demonic" witchcrafr and spells etc. One of the most outspoken was a moderar who'se avatar was a StarTrek Borg warrior .....That was kind of apprpriate in an ironic way
i still think "the forbidden planet " was one of the best sci fi films---i remember it from when i was a kid
I loved the forbidden planet bigmac, saw the stage version too.
Hey Star Trek predicted mobile phones, tablets and credit cards. Some good themes too, what it means to be human etc.
We had a few elders in our congregation who were big time Trekkies, and many others, myself included, who were really into the Star Wars movies. It caused quite a stir when a speaker at an assembly mentioned Star Wars and Star Trek specifically as things that Christians shouldn't watch. Star Trek because it promoted evolution, and Star Wars because the 'force' represented demonism. I was already into my fade, so I just rolled my eyes.

Just think, if you were a Mormon you'd be living a Sci-Fi dream all the time. The future reward of faithful LDS consists of the husband (with his extended family in tow) ruling his own planet!

Appreciate discussion & everybody's point. By no means am I dawgging people that like Sci-Fi movies, books etc. Just find it odd that it is widely accepted in JW land & they are so taboo about other things like vampire movies etc.
In my local congregation there was alot of the "Desperate Housewives Club" that were into the Vampire movie craze a few years ago, it definatley caused a stir in the congregation. I thought it was hilarious how they PICK & CHOOSE what they want to be "holier than thou on" & make concessions on other things. Hypocrites!!
Disney movies vs. Harry Potter movies are a similar area of hypocrisy. Some JWs will say that there's no conflict, because both are inappropriate for Christians, but they need to talk to Brother Anthony "I take my kids to Disneyland" Morris.
Let's not leave out the Great Crowd of Whovians.
