More changes to become to become a more mainstream religion! What about those who were counseled that the mental health professionals were evil and should be avoided? Conflicted89 is not alone! I know many, many JW's who were told the same thing. 'Pray more. More service. you are unspiritual because you are depressed.' What about those poor souls who killed themselves, because of the 'old light' thinking they were forgotten by God because they were depressed and needed medication? Yep, the old bait and switch.

Maybe. And I hope you're right, but I doubt it.

One can only hope, but as has been pointed out, the very recent Elders' Training Video regarding counseling a suicidal member of the congregation scrupulously avoided even suggesting that anyone thinking of killing themselves should seek professional help from a qualified, licensed mental health practitioner.

Remember, the Awake! is a document that contains propaganda for the public. It is NOT the same as the Insider information in other WT publications.

So, while Jehovah’s witnesses do not categorically rule out the possibility of treatment by doctors specializing in emotional or mental problems, if a Witness does consult such he should carefully scrutinize any treatment recommended. He should never forget that keeping Jehovah’s laws works toward his mental health today and everlasting life in the future.

    .

In other words don't let psychologists suggest leaving this fear mongering mentally debilitating publishing house because we want the power and control over you and your money.

    .

Established religious institutions are always and formatively against the mental health profession because they have the potential of enlightening the individual as to who is

    corrupting controlling their lives.

    .

Having a member even go to seek psychiatric help spoils the image perpetrated by the religion that all of their members are contentedly happy and joyful people..

No...in fact along with all the recent doctrinal changes, to help with the widespread problem with burn out, they are now encouraging the friends to do brodies in the parking lot after the meetings.

As far as the WTS. goes people outside their organization suffer mental illness but people inside their organization do not because

they have god's guiding light directing them.

    .

One of the ways the WTS. demeans and ostracizes people who leave their organization is done so by calling them mentally diseased.

The exact opposite is the Truth though for JWs are being cruelly brainwashed and exploited to support their organization at all costs.
