Thanks for the reply...it was very nice....however, it contains very little that addresses my question.

How can you suffer if you are dead?
that is statement more than a question. here is a better phrase.> Can you suffer when you are dead? The answer would be no. Death is a final destination from sin. The wages of sin brings death. Once you die you pay that wage. Death comes to us all if we dont live long enough to pass threw the new system of things. This system led by Satan with suffering and pain will not stand long. Since this is not the best way to live. Being an alien in a foreign land is hard for true christ like minds. Without others helping us out with fellowship we would think the way Satan thinks and turn away. Humans want to figure out a new way for themselves so they can do what they want. That was not the way a Theocracy is planned. A perfect government will never make new rules.

The eternal destruction would then be, you guessed it an eternal sleep. What can be worse than that?

It seems to me I remember reading years and years ago that in the phrase "eternal punishment" the hebrew word used for "eternal" (in the original scripture) meant God, as in The Eternal One. Therefore the phrase doesn't mean "endless punishment" but rather "God's punishment".... which puts a whole different spin on things.

Hi FRUSTR8TD--

I think the main problem in answering this question is the assumption
of Jws that death means unconciousness or non-existance.
Death to the Body is not neccessarily the same as death to the spirit & soul. You see, people are created with three distinct parts to make a whole person. The Bible calls them Body, Soul, & Spirit.
To the jw those are all one in the same and cannot be separated thus to them death of the body is death to everything. This is not Biblical however. All 3 parts are distict and separate.
I have a bit of info typed up on this that I made for a friend and I'll send it email for you so as not to make a huge long post here anyone else that wants it can let me know.

The second death and the Lake of Fire is Gehenna in the Bible. This is where Satan, the antichrist, false prophet, and those who rejected God will spend eternity after the Judgement. It is the second death because at this point the ungodly have been resurected PHYSICALLY and are being judged according to the Law (having rejected God's grace they will be condemned by their own actions and sins). The eternal destiny for them is Hell, Gehenna, The Lake of Fire which is the second death. The second death is of the body having at this point, died twice. Their body will be consumed by the fire, their sould will perish, but their spirits will be alive and consious, living with their choice of separation from God. This will torment them and be agonizing forever.
***Proof that this is concious need only to be read in Revelation 19&20:
Rev.19:20-- The beast [also called the antichrist in other passages] and the false prophet[his sidekick] are captured and thrown ALIVE into the Lake of Fire.
Yatta yatta, 1000years passes in Rev.20:1-6
Rev.20:7-10--Satan's final defeat and is thrown into the Lake of Fire where THE BEAST AND THE FALSE PROPHET ALREADY WERE AND THEY {obviosly together] WILL BE TORMENTED DAY AND NIGHT FOREVER AND EVER. Now, the Beast and false prophet were thrown in 1000 years before Satan will be but yet the inspired Book of Revelation says that they are still there when Satan is thrown in. And it states that together {so they must still exist] will be tormented forever. Let us not underestimate the word forever .
Rev.20:15--states that the ungodly will be thrown into the lake of fire-- no where does it state that it is any different than the one that satan is cast into-- so doesn't it also follow that the people too will be concious?

So much for making this shorter but please reference the scriptures I am emailing as proof that there is conciousness after death.

I will state one last time my thought on eternal life. It is just a gift given by Jehovah and bought by his first creation Jesus the King of the heavens in Rev. He [Jesus] repurchased us threw his shed blood. No other offering could of done what His sacrifice could do. And then he will have the 144,000 rule as his preasts and judges. Not too sure who appoints but they have that job to judge perfect humans at the milleniaum reign. Answer this, Why would he die for us? Did he get bored being human and decided to end his life after thirty years on earth? Or maybe, just maybe he wanted to balance the scales of justice the way Jehovah does. Eye for eye tooth for tooth. Be my witnesses says Jesus. We see what is really happening with this old world and we are not happy with what we see. I do not like the constant questioning of my religion. It is mostly negative and 10% of it is upbuilding. It is not to earthly man to even think of a better way says the christian greek scriptures. Better is the man not to be born than to risk not having everlasting life. Tell me where those scriptures are at and maybe I will stay on this discusion chat room.
