Maybe the question should be asked what are the odds of any religion to be the ONLY true religion ?

Finkelstein - "...what are the odds of any religion to be the ONLY true religion?"

    Much better question.

I remember making my bet that Thursday night 19 years ago, when after all the BS I seen in this religion I told myself, "there is no way Jehovah's Witnesses can be the true religion." That was the last meeting for me & my family, and we never ever returned.

The only inherently truth to the Watchtower Corporation is that it remained true in fostering manipulative and corrupt doctrines to

help in the commercialization of its own publications as well empower a select few men in the process.

This religious publishing house has its own designated sales representatives which they call Jehovah's Witnesses.

    .

Are they really witnesses for Jehovah or they witnesses for the Watchtower Corporation ?

You are right about the odds being the same for every religious group.

The narrow ideas of any group are remarkably suitable for the leader's quirky POV, and it seldom takes

long for either a charismatic personality or a slave-driving fundamentalist to take over and crack the whip.

Depending on the personality of the people attracted, it can be a remarkbly tight bond, even as dysfunctional as the impact

is on the lives of those inside the family.

When Bible studies were commonplace and there were always "interested ones" associating, it was clear that only an elite few were bringing in the "sheep". It was the skilled, the friendly ones who were able and willing to expend themselves to reach, teach and befriend people ...The "Super Salesmen, if you like. A convert, no matter what his education level has to be "meek" willing and looking for something and someone to come into his life. Put the two together and you have a baptismal candidate.

Could it really be true? If it is I am the biggest fool of all time for coming out of it , and so are we all. By all the reasoning I can muster, I can be sure that it is not true. The teachings are not: a) sensible b) Godly c) moral d) consistant....Surely that is what you would expect of a religios leader?

Terry: "These people are contrarians......." Oh so true! My grandparents (both sides) were attracted to Russell's sort of new age version of Christianity. They saw plenty to dislike in their churches so welcomed something they thought was new and different. Being raised in the enviorment of of the religion being "The Truth" my parents became whole hog followers of Rutherford. By this time (30's and 40's) the religion had morphed into being PURPOSELY offensive so as to cause the persecution they thought identified them as "true Christians". In so doing what kind of people did they convert? MORE assh**es! Those of us born to these strict followers of Rutherford had a miserable childhood. Those of us that didn't rebel, stayed out of fear. The neverending exposure to (as Hassen puts it) B.I.T.E. methods hooked us and kept us mental prisioners.
