Not sure if this counts, but I collect scotch canisters - they make for nice decoration amongst books and on top of bookshelves. Emptying the bottles that come in them is the best part.
Are YOU a person who "collects" things? Let's chat a moment . . .

I had a comic collection as a kid, it all got tossed in a move in 1963. Some of them would now be worth some money, except they weren't in very good condition. About the time we moved I went nuts building plastic model kits. Those all disappeared a few years later. I still have most of the science fiction collection that really got going in the late '60's.
In the last five years I've started collecting models again. Unlike the earlier collection they are all ships and all the same scale: 1/700. Today's models are vastly more detailed than what I used to do. I currently have two battleships, two aircraft carriers, a submarine, a destroyer and the Titanic. I'm putting the finishing touches on one of he aircraft carriers and eyeing my next project, probably another battleship.
Am I nuts? Probably, but I like doing it, I stay within a budget and it doesn't hurt anybody.

JeffT said, ' ...it doesn't hurt anybody.'
How would it hurt anybody?
I hope those battleships do not have operational cannons.

Logcon, a 1/700 scale 16 inch cannon is less than an inch long. If operational, they would be about as dangerous as the Indians shooting arrows at Ben Stiller in "Night at the Museum." They're all in my bedroom, so far I haven't been wounded in action after the sun goes down.

Only things I called are my video games. The shalve is build and does not take much space. I do not like collecting garbage, and prefer plain, comfortable, and easy to clean place. I do not have anything in my backyard, not even unused brick, planks, or stones. My attic is empty.

Terry, it's supposedly bad luck to give a knife as a gift. Get the person to pay you some coins so it's not a gift.
i collected everything Maeve Binchy wrote, that I could get. Now she's deceased and there won't be anything new from her. i re-read her books constantly. I did have all the Grishams but had to sell them to make room here. Oh and I have a small collection of Morgan silver dollars. I enjoy looking at old coins.

I collect a lot of things.
It irritates my wife.
I have lots of guitars and amplifiers.
I have started building guitars,
because I have pretty much bought all the ones I like.
I also have a box full of knives
A box full of beer cans from the 70's.
A box full of baseball cards.
A wall full of books.
A bag full of soccer balls.
Books and guitars are something I am liable to buy any given day.
I wont buy a book unless I am going to read it.
And if I read it I keep it.
I also have a collection of music and videos.
I have every song that I have ever found remotely interesting.
I started out collecting 78's 33&1/3's 45's, Cd's
But for the past 10 years I have everything digitalized and saved on hard disc.
I have videos of all my favorite bands and songs.
I also have dvd's of all my favorite movies.
I started out with Vhs and replaced them and continued on with dvd's.
I started out collecting money, silver, stocks.
I have many jars of change.
I never give change when I buy things, I give dollar bills and put the change in
jars.

I had a pretty good LP collection, 300+. Until about 4 months after making the hugh mistake of getting married a 2nd time! I came home to a hugh bond fire in the back, and the so called wife, throwing the last arm load on the fire! She also trashed a $3,000 (1975 money) Lafayette Electronics 800w Quadrophonic stereo system! Anything close today would cost $25,000! She had been playing some of the LP's, and got to my autographed "Eagles Hotel California" only been played once to make a tape of. Well unknown to me, my first wife had hid a couple special pictures i had taken of her on a wonderful picknick! 120 of those LP's were autographed! I wanted to push her onto the fire!

I have a number of small collections,
music - LP and CD probably about a thousand or so, mainly alternative, indie, chill-out and rock
Board games - getting close to about 200 or so. (no, none of them are for kids!)
Lego - an extensive collection of minifigures and quite a few sets (mainly collector sets)
Books - I read a lot of science fiction and historical fiction (like the bible ) my collection is divided into the pile by my bed I haven't read and the stuff on my shelves that I have read.
Geological specimens - I have a small collection of fossils, rocks and minerals.
Video games and consoles - I have too many consoles to attach to my TV (and my TV has a lot of inputs) and too many games (if you talk to my wife!)
Painted toy soldiers - I have a very small collection of painted figures and a very large collection of ones I should be painting!
I don't think any are particularly out of hand and they do fit in my house!
