I collect art pottery, vintage Roseville and some other vintage pottery. I would occasionally come across pieces when buying for my small antiques business, a lot of it was very inexpensive (some only $2) as they had chips, but the colors are divine and I don't mind the imperfections. Without planning for it I ended up with a collection. My husband and I also have some newer Raku pieces and American Indian pottery.

My mon does not hoard, she regularly spent time to get rid of things she does not need. She collected china and we have some antiquity that are in our family for four to six generations, but otherwise she throws everything out. I do not like accummulating things around the house and on the backyard due maintenance. Things get dirty, dusty, and difficult to go through.

There is difference between hoarding and collecting. Hoarding is compulsive disorder where people even collect garbage because they feel emotionally attached to it including newspaper, bottles, empty cases, cans, and wrappings.

My paternal grandfather had one full wall in his basement filled with antique and historic firearms. He also built replica Civil War cannons, steam engines and scale locamotives and train cars with tracks, from scratch. One of his trains is in a museum.

Wow! Now that is a man I would like to have met!
