I could find another thread so I thought I might add a few comments here - not a full critique though
"Hear Jehovah's Voice Wherever You Are"
http://www.jw.org/en/publications/magazines/w20140815/hear-jehovahs-voice/
We have the image of the young male J W being eyed up by a predatory vixen at work
The series of pics show two courses of action , in the blue set he is egged on by workmates , misses meetings and watches T V insread, socialises with the woman then takes her out to the pictures (movies to you, I suppose) . In the yellow set , he doesn't.
So far all of that is O K , may even be good advice if she is a bad lot, but the reasoning behind it all is what got to me .
We are told that we should listen to Jehovah's voice, "a word behind you saying,' this is the way'". And how do we hear it?
Par 2 " Today, Jehovah guides his people by means of the Bible, his holy spirit, and the congregation. ( Acts 9:31; 15:28;2 Tim. 3:16, 17 ) The guidance that we receive from him is so clear that it is as if ‘our own ears hear a word behind us saying: “This is the way. Walk in it.”’ ( Isa. 30:21 ) In effect, Jesus also conveys Jehovah’s voice to us as he directs the congregation through “the faithful and discreet slave.” ( Matt. 24:45 ) We need to take this guidance and direction seriously, for our everlasting life depends on our obedience. —
So, the congregation is where it is at - the F & D Slave will tell us .
Par 16 We actually need to put ourselves in places or circumstances where Jehovah’s spirit is. We know that his spirit is at the congregation meetings. Many servants of Jehovah have avoided disaster by listening to Jehovah during our meetings. As a result, they have become aware of wrong desires developing in their heart and have corrected their ways
So just remember when bro So and So speaks from the platform, it is not him, but God who is speaking !...........
Or not? I don't think.. Of course these days they can turn on the T V and still get "God's voice" through what the old die-hards used to call "Satan's gogglebox" in my youth...funny how times change isn't it?
