To be fair, he only claims infallibility when wearing the "I am now infallible" hat.

To be honest I don't think this is such a big deal. Belief in God and evolution are not mutually exclusive. People have believed in both for years. Kate xx

    I want one of those!

Seriously, though; I think the number of times that policy's actually been invoked can be counted on one hand, they the statements made were so obviously common sense, that they may as well not even bothered.

If Evolution was used to create all things then did he use it to create angels? From what did they evolve from?

If we are a product of evolution then was there original sin with Adam and Eve? If they did not exist then doesnt that completely destroy the idea of original sin?

If there was no original sin why was there a need for Jesus?

If evolution is the means that god used then why bring humans to heaven?

Where does hell and heaven fit in the evolutionary path?

The problem isn't really reconciling God with evolution.

It's the fact that, if evolution is true, the Eden narrative in Genesis can't possibly be literal history, which is completely incompatible with fundamentalist Christianity's understanding of the whole reason their religion exists.

EDIT: Theredeemer touched on it in the post above.

    Theredeemer,

Good questions, each believer has their own set of beliefs to answer those questions. Personally I don't believe that God wrote the bible so none of it is a lesson for us, niether do I believe that God is benevolent or cares about us, I just believe in some parts of evolution that had Gods direction, form a chemistry perspective. This is evidence for me and satisfies me.

I wonder if eventually even the JWs and other creationist type religions will concede that evolution is fact. Of course they won't announce it, just quietly stop publishing anti evolution materials and pretend they never believed otherwise. They haven't updated the evolution book, probably with good reason, their explanations are laughable now that we know so much more about the subject, the DNA evidence alone is overwhelming. They are starting to look like flat earthers at this point.

I'm with Kare Wild on this one; creationism and evolution are not mutually exclusive.

I have always thought that it's rather like saying a builder built a house without mixing up concrete and laying bricks, in short, getting his hands dirty.

We all have our way of understanding life and the universe and I guess that's mine.

Nevertheless, I would never insist that others should believe as I do or ever brow-beat them for disagreeing with me.

    I'll leave that to Cofty...

I've actually given that very question a considerable amount of thought.

Way back when I was still in, certain things I'd learned forced me to the (terrifying at the time) conclusion that evolution had to be true, and what's more, that I couldn't have been the only JW who (privately) thought so.

At the time, I thought of the WTS as a fairly progressive organization who'd come around, but the more I dwelt on it, the more I realized that a) the R&F would have a massive collective freak-out if the WTS ever reversed their position on something that big, and b) WT theology is almost utterly dependent on Genesis being literal history; therefore, if they acknowledged evolution, it would completely undermine their definition of Christianity's entire reason for existing (they did, in fact, tacitly admit as much in an Awake! article a few years back).

They can't change course on this one; they've already painted themselves way too tightly into an ideological corner.

If I had to guess, I'd say they're just holding out, hoping the Big A will come along and bail them out before the evidence becomes so undeniable that even they'd have to admit it.
