At the end of our bookstudy the overseer brought up the subject of the show that will air tonight.

He said that if we decide to watch the show, it was up to us, but he wanted to share some scriptures with us. The two he shared were:

Job 13:16 "He would also be my salvation, For before him no apostate will come in."

Phillipians 4:8 "Finally, brothers, whatever things are true, whatever things are of serious concern, whatever things are righteous, whatever things are chaste, whatever things are lovable, whatever things are well spoken of, whatever virtue there is and whatever praiseworthy thing there is, continue considering these things."

I wasn't planning on watching the show and those verses sealed that decision. Very timely counsel.

A witness I know told me about a sister in her cong. that called and was "fuming mad" because of what was revealed on the show. She said she will NEVER go to an elder if she has a problem, because they aren't qualified to handle it. She said it will be impossible to go out in service now.

"apostate"? Most translations render it "hypocrite", the Society sees apostasy in everything don't they?

    Phillipians 4:8

    Forgot about that one entirely.

Yes, the old 'if it is not positive, stop talking about it' scripture. Circular reasoning at its finest.

1: "I've never heard anything bad about the org"

2: "Well, it seem bad that...."

Sheesh, I want to sign up and sow the seeds of discontent, but I don't want to do it from my work! As soon as I get home I will start implanting subtle seeds of doubt in their little, little minds!

Apostates??? You do well NOT to watch it!!! More than likely the story will be very slanted and decietful. Dont give them the opportunity to undermine your faith!
NO COMMENT! I don't want to start cursing now...

    This one's good:
The one case I've been reading about......and I assume will be one of the ones Dateline reports on....dates from 1988. Why wait so long? And many state laws have been changed since then. The whole issue is better understood and out in the open now. In that case it was the child's grandfather that was the abuser. He was disfellowshipped. The parents are claiming that they were told not to go to the authorities. They were implying that they were "warned" not to go. That the brothers made them hush it all up.
If that charge is true......then it depends on what the laws were at the time if the Elders did anything wrong. And if they did, there is no excuse for it. They will have to suffer the consequences.

What this chick is saying basically is that it's OK that they were "warned", as long as it wasn't AGAINST THE LAW??????? WTF? Is this chikka for real?

    More gems from "GrannyMoogie":
I think that attitude is a lot different from the Catholic Church's across the board policy of keeping everything secret and shuffling the priests around to continue abusing children. Remember, the Society's official policy is to follow the laws of the state.
Mrs Moogie, I'm afraid you are deluded and absolutely UNINFORMED. HAHA.

In my own little pea brain, LOL!

I think there is a certain amount of opportunism with this case....but I can't be sure of that and I won't bring that into anything I say to anyone else. The biggest thing to remember is to stay calm.
OK, so exposing the TRUTH is for Dubs at least equivalent to "OPPORTUNISM". Yeesh.

And HERE is the clincher, apparently straight from the mouth of the GB in the Watchtower:
Hence, a child molester is subject to severe congregational discipline and restrictions. It is not his status as an authority figure that should be of concern but, rather, the unblemished purity of the congregation.

    GrannyMoogie cracks me up AGAIN!
Of course. But if I got the correct sense of things, there is an implication that we have one stated policy and another one in practice.

I don't think that's true. But it could happen. That's why I think it's wise not to go too far out on a limb trying to defend anyone. There's no defense for the indefensible.

Personally, I think we have another case of someone with an axe to grind. And using an opportune moment to grind it.

"There's no defense for the indefensible". What the hell is she trying to say? Could someone please enlighten me?

Whatever happens, we can be sure that Jehovah will take care of the matter, and not let this shake our own faith.
Yeah, "Jehovah" sure handles child abuse well.

I think it's important that we know the policy, however, because that's what we can tell people. "I can't speak for how any particular case was handled... but I can tell you we have a clear and strong policy that no molester is allowed to hold any position of responsibility in the organization, and the organization will not protect anyone from the legal consequences of their actions."
No CONVICTED (by a JC) molester can hold a position! That is the essential clarity missing here! ARTGH! Two witness rule, anyone?

Yes, the whole matter is agenda-driven, a whole media show that attempts to embarrass the Society. The ex-elder (supposedly stepped-down, not disfellowshiped yet) who is behind the whole thing is determined to smear the Society's image publicly, charging cover-up. According to newspaper reports, he was supposed to have a judicial hearing last week, but turned it into a media event by having 50 of his associates appear in a candle-light "vigil." In view of the circus atmosphere, the judicial hearing was not held.
WHAT CIRCUS ATMOSPHERE? Seems to me that Dubs think 50 very distraught and emotionally and physically abused people wanting to view a compatriot of theirs get kicked out of the Tower for speaking up is a CIRCUS. Lovely.

This is not about the abused children.
Ah, I see. So Bill Bowen's been wrong all along.

The abused children are just being used as pawns, abused again by having their suffering used in an attempt to bankrupt the Society and to destroy its good name.
So, they will suffer more if the Society ISN'T REFORMED?

I dont plan on watching it, but I trust that Jehovah will not allow his name to be smeared on this scale. The brothers from the society that were interviewed did good, im sure.
OH YEAH, JR BROWN DID AN EXCELLENT JOB! No Doubt!

Rather, we judge based on bible principles. What does the organization teach? What does the organization condone?
This guy says it ALL. "What does the organization condone" indeed!

Thankfully we have the statement on the JW media site to help us in defending these new attacks.
    OK, I'm stumbled!

And now, a Dub who quotes Winnie the Pooh, and obviously considers him to be "advanced reading material":
I truly do not want to hear a word of what these ridiculers have to say....but I'd really like to see the comments of Bro Brown or other society representatives...
SIG: I was going to change my shirt, but I changed my mind instead - Winnie the Pooh

I had to take some time to stop laughing at THIS one.

I'm not going to watch it either.
But I bet all the opposers will have the popcorn out and'll be lovin' life tonight.

    And I'm sure he's right!

But wait, there might be some stuff going down for the "A-Team" in the near future, "apparently":
And it's so nice to know...that they won't be loving it for long!
Depends on your frame of reference, I suppose. I'll be loving it until the end of my natural life, which is not all that long, if you're God. "Any day now", tremendous stuff!

I missed the airing as I was out in service, but obviously I fared much better.
Somehow, the thought of a Dub knocking on my door at 10PM is a disturbing one.

    GO KINGS....GO LAKERS!!!!
Keep NBC occupied with triple overtime so that Dateline special doesn't air until midnight!!!!

Isn't it weird how that site is almost a polar opposite of THIS one? Strange...but TRUE!

    GRANNYMOOGIE HAS HER SAY AGAIN!
There's a game on here too. Let's hope it goes on...and on...and on.
Yeah, just like the predictions of the Tower have gone on...and on...and on...."any day now, guys, this time, for SURE!"

Finally, a voice that actually shows positive signs of thinking for itself:
I videotaped and watched the show. I do not understand an unwillingness to at least be aware of what many of us will have to make an answer for in the coming weeks.

This is your brain. This is your brain on the front of a 1967 Falcon because you refused to look both ways when crossing the street.

Ray Franz was not on the show that I can recollect.

What is going to be a tough one to answer ... one of the parting scenes ... is why a brother who is a twice-convicted pedophile (so far, ours seem to be heterosexual) ... whose own son claims his Dad is casing for victims ... has preaching priveleges. Stone Philips does, off camera, state that he isn't allowed to preach alone ... but that will be cold comfort when people see us coming up their sidewalks.

In our KMS tonight a long letter regarding the policy was read along with about 16 scriptures to support it. The Brothers did not state why they were reading it. That I know of, there has been no discussion about this show amongst the friends.I imagine a number of the friends left the KH shaking their heads wondering "what was THAT all about?"

All I know for certain is that, barring divine intervention, tomorrow at 11 a.m. I have to have answers for a pushy Muslim employer I have been witnessing to at work for the past few months. I can not simply step off the porch and go to the next door. I have to either quit my job or stand my ground and defend it.

All I can come up with is "You watched the same show I did. I know the policy regarding this stuff forbids what was reported. I can't answer for why it wasn't followed."

The assertions that we punish the victim for being a whistleblower is going to sour a lot of stomachs. There is no question in my mind that, to the extent that the allegations are true, we are undergoing a purifying by fire.

I actually feel pretty sorry for this guy...wouldn't want to be in his boots today!

Once more, GrannyMoogie regales us with a completely self-contradicting statement:
I didn't watch the show because I had been keeping up with the newspaper accounts and I didn't feel it necessary to cause myself any more grief. I don't appreciate anyone hinting that I have my head in the sand...or that I'm refusing to face the issue.
The fun doesn't stop, ladies & gentlemen!

THIS guy almost sounds like Farkel...but of course, I think Farkel would have this guy for breakfast!
    6) I'm really surprised that you (of all people, someone I respect for your logic) are not impressed that such a person can be changed, rescued from his former way of life, and turn around. Oh, you believed the last person's OPINION that he was not repentant? and how would you know that? You see, you were manipulated by an opinion - and you thought it was a fact, somehow.

While we are all deeply saddened to hear such situations and perhaps have been a victim we have full trust that Jehovah cares deeply for us and will be there to help.
    More "help"!

Hold your heads high for being part of a CLEAN and RESPONSIBLE organization, admittedly under the direction of imperfect men (can't think of a better phrase),
I can think of a better phrase, but it would be EXTREMELY RUDE!

I watched the movies on JW-Media on this and really have no stomach to watch apostates being placed in an informative light. It would have been counterproductive to watch it, so I did something that was far more productive, make food.
"Apostates placed in an informative light", oh man, that is SO rich....I suppose we've been placed in an uninformative light up to now, eh?

As to the report, there were several gapping holes in the story which have been mentioned by SciBoy and Silverfox. Particularly the "sister" who was "assigned" to investigate confidential files at hq. RIGHT!!!! And the former elder, father of one victim, with a big ol' pony tail. Umm HELLO isn't their a SCRIPTURE that mentions how long hair is a dishonor on men and shows disrespect to Jehovah.
Sickening! Cool, we can dismiss all these allegations and proven cases of gross misconduct because the enemy wears a pony tail! WTF!

My heart goes out to victims of such abuses, without a doubt. But broadcasting your discontent nationwide belies a serious lack of humility.
And an organization that hides the problem belies a serious lack of GOD!

There certainly was the serious danger that apostates would be interviewed, and the society has warned for years not to have anything to do with them. Their teachings are crooked and very deceptive...all it takes is one little clever coment, and that could stay in your mind for years, eating at you.
Yeah, TRUTH has a habit of doing that, doesn't it?

But in a sense, apostates WERE interviewed. These were individuals that, even though they were dedicated and babtised witnesses, chose to bring public shame on the worldwide brotherhood...to actauly BEAT their brothers. I know that some where either disfellowshiped, or where in the process of meeting with a judicial comittee. Whether they have went to the point of no return is for Jehovah to decide, but I certainly wouldnt sit down, watch, and entertain their ideas. See Job 13:16, as well as 1 Corinthians 15:33. And no doubt about it, the segment clearly DID NOT FIT into Phillipians 4:8's criteria for what would be worthy of consideration for a Christian.
This guy really knows how to control his mind! He's well re-adjusted in his thinking!

OH SUPER!!! Thats exactly what we needed. The Faithful and Discreet Slave truly gives us what we need at the proper time.
No, the FDS is just COVERING IT'S ASS!

The only other thing I would like to add is that I heard JR Brown speak at my Kingdom Hall's dedication about eight years ago. He is such an eloquent and informed person and speaker.
I'm seriously gonna DIE of laughter!

    ENOUGH ENOUGH ENOUGH!

What we are reading is like eavesdropping on the conversations of a car group doing RV's from one end of the territory, and then driving to the other.

Besides the mind numbing comments - what's with the obsession with Star Trek and Star Wars?

And, I also felt a little sorry for the guy who was worried about what to say to his employer and later having to go out in service. Perhaps a big drop in hours over the next few weeks......?
