I don't know what you mean by bologna.
I'm agnostic if that tells you anything, but I also believe the Bible is one of the best preserved pieces of ancient literature around and that some of the characters (At least) existed.

Whenever the bible has a story that contradicts, violates the laws of nature, in other words "Miracles" it is definetely wrong. dates, ages, timing is wrong.
Movement through Time can stop, vary , but can not go backward, like the shadow on the stairs. The creator could be bigger than the universe, particular when it started from a point. The unscientific fables destroy the bibles credibility.
I contaisn some agreed upon moral principles, was a shaper of some written languages, through it's first translations.
It is good to know well, if for no other reason to see how wrong wt teachings are, even by the B in wtBts. INC.
I don't believe the Bible is spagetti sauce, otherwise I agree withTD.
I still thought the bible was all good till about a year ago, then the blinders fell off and I discovered all the contradictions. We have to remember the bibles writings were never supposed to be collected into one large book. If we separate the writing back out we find it to be more of a patchwork of writings and beliefs of several different groups at several different times in history. Also many of its writings and stories are copies from other writings then embellished or changed to make them fit the Hebrew ideal. All in all its mostly garbage with some good advice sprinkled in at times. I like the golden rule and the teachings about love etc., but tear the rest out and burn it because this stupid book has resulted in more death than I care to think about!
I think most people who beleive the bible are completely ignorant of what the bible actually teaches in its entirety or cherry pick what they accept and ignore what they dont accept.
smiddy
I think I may be in the process of losing some of my previously held adoration. I think generally it is true or at least written in a way that makes a beneficial point but I no longer believe it flows without error or contradiction. That much has become obvious.
I used to believe God protected the sanctity of His word but seeing what the Watchtower has done with their new NWT version has proven to me that He has not protected His word from the ravages of man's many agendas... (or is that "agendi"?)
I have come to the conclusion that the bible is a good starting point for learning the basics but at some point you have to graduate from the rules and regulations and learn how improvise in real life. I also think if you really want to experience the emotion of LOVE for God, stay away from the old testament. I'm content with the gospels at this point - they serve as a reminder that I shouldn't be a dick. Beyond that, I have little use for the book.
If read correctly as a historical book then it is a good read. I highly recommend reading: Reading the Bible Again For the First Time: Taking the Bible Seriously But Not Literally
when was it all gathered together as the one big book we all know and love now ?
The Bible as literature, and as a means of seeing how beliefs morph change and are changed over 2 millennia, is valuable.
As history, it can't be trusted; it is a faith perspective on events, not history.
The Bible was written by humans and definitely has flaws. Because it has flaws and contradictions, you have to have apologists who have to jump through hoops to explain why flaws are not what they appear.
