My Mom's reaction to the Dateline show

I posted earlier today that Mom thought the show was well done but she thought they made some "cheap shots" too. Tonight, after dinner, I asked her what she thought were the cheap shots. I could tell she had trouble remembering, but said this: "I am sure there are some cases of molestation, like the ones they discussed on the show, that were handled badly, but there are so many that are handled in the right way. Why didn't they tell about those?" (I handled that one pretty easily...........they want them to change their policy so ALL cases are handled correctly)

She didn't understand a lot of the situation with Erica, so I explained, since I know a lot of the details of that case. She was pretty horrified, especially about all the JW's that came to support her molester in court, and one of them calling her a slut, but said it was an isolated incident and the elders were wrong to do that to her. So I asked her why the elders in Brooklyn didn't correct that mistake, before Erica's life was damaged so badly. No answer, but she is thinking.........I hope.

The other one had to do with them showing the pedophiles going out in service. She thought that was staged because they wouldn't let them go with them, with a camera. So, I told her about telephoto lenses, etc. She realized that was probably true, and it was the actual pedophiles.

As she went back downstairs, she said: "I truly believe that Jehovah used those people, AND the Dateline show, to bring about the needed changes in the organization, and I think it was a very good show."

I wanted to HURL!!! So I said: "How about thinking that Jehovah used the show and those people to expose the organization for what it is?" She smiled. I'm sure she thinks I am demented.

Why don't you tell her that in the segment John Larson asked the Society to come up with cases where they were handled properly. It was only SIX MONTHS LATER that they gave Dateline TWO cases. In both cases the perps weren't JWs. They were "worldly". WTS shot their own foot on that one!

from someone who has very deep and close connections to the E.R. case..this was not staged. So unfortunate.

    Mulan,

How about thinking that Jehovah used the show and those people to expose the organization for what it is?"

At least your mom smiled when you said this.More importantly, she watched it.
My mom on the otherhand, would not watch the show and yelled at me when I called to give her the time for the show to air.
So remember, it could be worse.

You havent heard it all yet...just listen....

my df'd mother watched it last night. I called her to ask what she thought...she was crying...( I should mention she is not the most emotionally/mentally stable person around..)

I just am so hurt that Satan is using television to hurt Jehovahs people. I mean..I know the Bible said it would happen...but I cant believe it is happening. To SEE it happen! It hurts me so much! I heard that Kingdom Melody music and broke down..how could they hurt Jehovahs people?

I had to remind her that although she went on and on about how she felt, imagine how those poor molested victims felt!! To this, she responded, yeah, yeah, I know, but those are only a few out of millions. They took it all out of context!

So you can be in or out folks, and be more brainwashed than ever.....

The typical reaction..."we are in the last days...."

My mother tried this...I reminded her of all the other horrific things that occured during the last 1000 years or so...

Black Plauge, Spanish Flu, Crusades and so many more.

I asked "don't you think those people thought that those times were "the last days?"

She was stumped. Had no answer. I mentioned the flesh falling off peoples faces during the black plague. Perhaps we are already in Paradise...We have electricity and running water, autos, etc."

She really thought about it!!!! TOO FUNNY. She is brain dead. Just when I think she has some cranial matter left, she proves it is all just dead gray tissue.

    Tera,
We have got to be siblings seperated at birth or my mom has a twin.
I couls see those same words coming from my moms mouth.

With my mom it all boils down to selfishness.Claiming to be upset for Gods people but really just thinking about herself.

    "Out of context".

    OK.

So now, I suppose, it's OK if a few kids get molested, just don't take it OUT OF CONTEXT?????

    Sigh...

I spoke to Mom again, later last night, and she said some additional things. There was a lot of the stuff like "waiting on Jehovah" and "...his timetable". My comments to her were about innocent people having their lives destroyed, in the meantime, waiting for God to act. She said that peoples lives have been hurt for centuries, and I said "yes, but at God's hand? I don't believe a god of love would do that to his 'name' people, do you?"

She brought up my sister in law, who died in 1977 because she didn't have a blood transfusion, and how lives were affected there. Perfect opening for me. I said "did you realize that Janice would probably be alive today, because of all the changes in their policies on blood transfusions? Blood elements are being allowed now, that probably would have saved her life? How can you justify that?" No remark at all............I doubt if she knows about that issue, enough to comment. But, she is thinking.
