I posted earlier today that Mom thought the show was well done but she thought they made some "cheap shots" too. Tonight, after dinner, I asked her what she thought were the cheap shots. I could tell she had trouble remembering, but said this: "I am sure there are some cases of molestation, like the ones they discussed on the show, that were handled badly, but there are so many that are handled in the right way. Why didn't they tell about those?" (I handled that one pretty easily...........they want them to change their policy so ALL cases are handled correctly)
She didn't understand a lot of the situation with Erica, so I explained, since I know a lot of the details of that case. She was pretty horrified, especially about all the JW's that came to support her molester in court, and one of them calling her a slut, but said it was an isolated incident and the elders were wrong to do that to her. So I asked her why the elders in Brooklyn didn't correct that mistake, before Erica's life was damaged so badly. No answer, but she is thinking.........I hope.
The other one had to do with them showing the pedophiles going out in service. She thought that was staged because they wouldn't let them go with them, with a camera. So, I told her about telephoto lenses, etc. She realized that was probably true, and it was the actual pedophiles.
As she went back downstairs, she said: "I truly believe that Jehovah used those people, AND the Dateline show, to bring about the needed changes in the organization, and I think it was a very good show."
I wanted to HURL!!! So I said: "How about thinking that Jehovah used the show and those people to expose the organization for what it is?" She smiled. I'm sure she thinks I am demented.
