My mom (who is inactive at the moment) watched it. She missed part of it and so she called me to see if I had watched it. I told her I had and filled her in on the bits she missed. She said something to the effect of "well we do have to forgive people, The bible tells us that if they are repentant we even have to forgive murderers. And I told her that that wasn't the point! The point was that the societies policy was horrible and needed to change and I said if they didn't have a crap policy that they were trying to make excuses for than how do you explain this? And I brought her to the JW-media site where Dr. Gail gives her spiel about how 18-20 years ago we didn't know that is was detremental to our childrens psyches for them to be molested! When I got back on the phone she was completely OUTRAGED! She could barely speak. Some of the things she said were "You need a group of people to tell you it's WRONG TO MOLEST YOUR CHILD?????" "That's it, that's it, I'm done, no more!" "That's the most disgusting thing I've ever heard in my entire life" and other things to this effect :) Who needs apostate sites?? They are doing a fan-freakin-tastic job of shooting themselves in the arse!

I love the "wait on Jehovah" approach. It's as though they acknowledge that the god they believe in could give them life, a brain, a conscience... but conveniently left out the tools for them to apply those things. They'd rather sit back with the "wait" approach instead of recognize that their god very well may have given them the tools to act and darn near expects them to act!!

It reminds me of that joke about the guy trapped by rising flood waters... "god will provide, god will provide" he says as he waves off the rescue boat...

Tonight, I told Mom she would be hearing a letter read, that was a 'damage control' letter after Dateline (she listens to the meetings on a phone link). She said "I wish you weren't so prejudiced." I said "I wish you weren't so prejudiced." She laughed.

    Mike Musto,

I know what you mean. I guess she thinks that only a few cases out of millions are molesters and the show made it look like elders purposefully hid them.. or something like that. She kept saying how this was Satan's works to attack the Org...

    ChiChi,

Wow, maybe we're long lost twins ourselves? It's kinda nice knowing someone else knows what I go through... you got it, everything is twisted to somehow be affecting them..no-one else. Ugh.

Were you born in Alaska? Just maybe....

    SYN,

Now you get the jw thinking!

I think it's great that so many of you discuss Dateline with your family!
I haven't even mentioned Dateline to mine. I'm finished discussing that religion with them unless THEY bring it up.

I believe there was mention on Dateline about "Jehovah dealing with things (molestation) in his time..."
How do they know Dateline WASN'T Jehovah's time to deal with it?
