This Klez virus is far and away the most insidious virus I've seen. It masquerades itself in dozens of ways. If you get it in your system, you'll probably have to reinstall your operating system from scratch. I know; I stupidly clicked on an attachment and have spent days reinstalling.

Look at this site http://www.viruslist.com/eng/index.html for details on the Klez virus.

Do not open email attachments without being absolutely sure that it's not infected!

    I've not seen these ones.

I have seen the more general money scam ones; I got one from a Nigerian yesterday; the 'we need someone with a European bank account to process these funds released by the new government, help us and we give you $6m thing, except they turn up with a briefcase full of money, and then can't give it to you 'cause one form is wrong, and they need x amount to get the form processed, and then they give you the money, but of course they don't. Another one I've heard of was a supposed ex-Congalese geruilla fighter asuaging (sp?) his conscience by donating $millions to a worthy cause, same kicker at the end no doubt.

    Anyone else got those ones?

I got a fake email, with attachment, from a well known person on this board. It just struck me as strange. There was a misspelling in the subject line, and that threw up a red flag for me.I didn't open the file. I emailed this person back and asked about it. This person, had no idea what I was talking about. They never sent it.

Has anyone gotten an email with the subject "Postcards for you"?

I just received one and don't want to click onto it without knowing who sent it to me.

It doesn't have an attachment to click onto but does have a "click here" to receive your postcard. In small letters below that it has a website URL like http://postcards.rin.ru/postcard/humor and then ends in html. It also invites you to visit their website which is "Russion Information Network".

I typed in the website address and the site is all in Russian.

This all looked kinda wierd to me so...just wondering if anyone else has received anything like this.

Thanks orangefatcat....it sounds too suspicious for me!!!

I can't imagine anyone I know sending me a postcard from a website all in Russian.... so I'll just delete it.

I had one from a member here too.
It wasnt his fault, the darn thing gets into the address book and sends itself. I felt so awful though because it sent itself to many of my friends and family in my own address book. Smart little bugger. Im glad they all were understanding. The people that had firewalls and virus scans noticed it right away and didnt click on the attatchments. We have a virus scan from Mcafee. You can find them on the the web. This one continually updates itself on all the current viruses that it is aware of.
We paid about $24.99 and pay about $9.00 a year for the service.
Kind of makes you wonder if the anti-virus companies arent in fact the creators of these viruses?! I mean how can they be so up on this stuff?! Hmmmmm.....
I know, me and my conspiracy theories huh......
    Hey really, ya' never know.....

    Yes. It is WORM_KLEZ.G.

With this one, the rule of only opening attachments from people you know doesn't work because the worm disguises itself as coming from a KNOWN AND TRUSTED EMAIL ADDRESS.

I got it a week ago and had to reformat my hard drive! Don't open any attachments that contain a file with the extension ".scr", even if it seems to be coming from someone you know.

Also don't run any attachements that you receive in an email that claims to be a patch or immunity to WORM_KLEZ.G. It is actually the worm trying to trick you into intalling it. Again this could seem to be coming from a friend. Only run fixes that you have personally downloaded from a trusted website.
