the letter claims that abuse victims are not discouraged from going to the authorities, that no one is punished for going to the authorities etc. etc. etc.

That ought to go over really big in congregations where victims have been told not to go to the authorities. Wouldn't you like to be the elder who gave that admonition, now up there reading this letter to the victim and family?

I showed up at the time posted for the meeting... but no one was there. The KH was empty.

I'll have to try again next week. The hall shares multiple congregations and the next congregation has its service meeting on Tuesday.

    letter was as follows:

There should be honor in the marriage bed,
Witnesses abhor sexual abuse (is this a surprise ? cant recall anyone
    who claimed they didnt)
Elders report (in states that require it) abuse
Victims are not discourged from going to the Police,
    but it is their responsibility.
    This part was interesting:

"the orgainization has in the past made corrections
in POLICY when it found it has need to" --not a
direct quote but the corrections of Policy were mentioned--
funny I cant find the word Policy in the Bible..can you?

Elders are encouraged to stick to the Guidelines that
was given to the in the Recent school--

The over all point of the letter was that we now have
answers when given in the field.

We should not be ashamed to be witnesses and are happy to defend
our faith (funny they werent in that mood when dateline came about)]

And we are happy that we are not like the rest of the world-but
will be happy at our upcoming district convention

If I were still a rank-and-file publisher, this would make me FURIOUS!!! I'm supposed to be ready to go to those doors and "defend our faith", but the Society (with all those sort-of Holy Spirit backed brothers and professional legal and publicity department)was afraid to "defend our faith" with Dateline????

Sigh...My Mom wouldn't watch the show and when I offered to let her borrow my tape so she'd know what she might be facing in service she told me that she didn't want to watch it because she might be "troubled". She also said that this letter made her "feel comforted". Sigh again.

    Jewel,

AMEN!!!! You hit the nail on the head.

The over all point of the letter was that we now have
answers when given in the field.

Uh, yeah, as usual, they have armed themselves with a whole bunch of imaginary weapons.

I think the biggest knock will be to all the 'return visits' who happened to catch this show.

Because truthfully, I don't think anybody will want to work door to door this weekend. There will be a new run on Return visits, LOL.

And I'm predicting overall time spent in field service drops to......15 minutes.

Yeah, has anyone gotten their hands on a copy that can be scanned and posted?
