Two thumbs up.
It looked enjoyable enough, but I despise Ben Affleck....I find him really irritating. Was he ok?
ashi
I will!
Ashi,
I don't like Ben Affleck much, either. I think he's one of those pretty-boy actors with stiff deliveries. Some actors (Cary Grant, Harrison Ford) can be stiff and it comes across as sophistication. Others (George Clooney, Kevin Costner) are stiff and it just tastes like cardboard. (Pretty female actresses, however, can have little acting talent, but that can be overlooked if they have other assets--hey, at least I'm honest.)
However, Affleck was actually pretty good in SoAF. I expected to be distracted by my dislike for him, but he did a bang-up job.
If they turn any of the other books into movies, I just hope they go back to Harrison Ford. Can you imagine Ben Affleck as President?
Morgan Freeman and James Cromwell were both great in the movie, as one would expect. I'm also glad they replaced Willem Defoe as John Clark.
I was surprised to see Tom Clancy as Executive Producer, especially considering the ways in which they strayed from the book. But all in all, a very good movie. Well worth the price of admission.
Hmmm
Trust me...
I’m no fan of Affleck, either, but in the film, he’s believable as a newbie/reluctant CIA agent. If you do what I do when you go to the movies, you’ll suspend belief and enjoy the show... the story.
There were times when, in the big theatre of the multi-plex, 500 people went absolutely silent – kids and all. I teared up a couple of times, thinking about post-9/11 life and how real the movie is. Maybe it’s only something fellow Americans can understand, but I did, and I’m not ashamed to say it.
As Ebert said: pre-9/11 this would be a very entertaining thriller. Post-9/11, it seems all too plausible. On that basis, it’s a hard movie to watch, but awfully entertaining and very well done. There's also (thankfully) a very plausible and feel-good ending. You'll walk out feeling good.
Howdy. Well, I LIKE Ben Afflick - cute guy. And he did a fine job as a newbie CIA.
Actually, I thought the movie was pretty darned good. Made you stop for a moment and think how fast we could all be over.
Very good movie - curious about some things about it.....but don't want to give anything away.

I disliked Affleck for years, considering him a pretty-boy who lucked into his success. Guess I was just jealous. Then one night, I saw him host an episode of Saturday Night Live and my opinion of him completely changed. He came across completely differently and I've been a fan ever since.
Back to the movie, I just checked the grosses for the weekend and it looks like Affleck beat out both Anakin and Peter Parker earning $31.2 million. Not too shabby.

Hi Teejay,
I thought it was an absorbing movie. However, you should have checked the "movie" forum, as I posted a thread just about 15 minutes before yours

Ryan's girlfriend (Bridgette Moynahan) reminded me a lot of Pris... er, Sandra Bullock.
Hmmm
