    Room,

The dogmatic, irrational insistence of those dunderheads in Brooklyn that Jesue died on a stake when in fact, the odds are about even, cross or stake, shows the lengths they will go to stand askance of the rest of humanity...

The historical evidence that Jesus died on a cross (with crossbeam) is overwhelming. It really isn't an open question.

For those who really care about the subject, I wrote an overview of the evidence some time back in this thread: http://kent.steinhaug.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=341

    Jan:

You wrote: "I attach below something I wrote a long time ago."

I read your article. It appears to be very much like an article I read a while ago written by Rud Persson. Are you familar with the article to which I refer? Do you know Rud? (He's A fellow Norwegian I believe.) Was what you wrote largely copied from his article? The similarities seem too great to be merely coincidental. Now I suppose Rud may have copied your article. However, from what I know of Rud, I highly doubt that is the case.

F2J, Yes, I got much of the info from an article by Rud Persson. I don't know him personally though. The original version of my posting contained a link directly to Rud's article (in Swedish), but I probably removed it when that site went down or moved. Should have credited him.

    He's a Swede, btw.

I just wonder why people wear crosses on their necklaces. If guns were around and he had been shot with a gun, would people wear those around their necks?

    Stinky,

I've often been puzzled by that myself. Unfortunately, I think that the reason I feel that way is because I believe that's one of the arguments that the Reasoning From the Scriptures book uses.

Honestly, though, I have to agree with nativenyr23 that the reason that most do wear a cross is so that they can be reminded of what Jesus sacrificed for us.

Quote:I don't see how it possibly matters

That point seems to cover everyones feelings by the responses given.....and it dosen't matter!

The bible is so vaugue on so many matters it must not be important to God either or he would have clarified many, many things.

It's the witnesess that drag out ancient customs and apply it to how religion mimicks them. Most people don't have a clue about the cross and it's backround as used in pagan worship......who cares!

They often quote Josephus to validify a point there are making but will not accept his word when he said Jesus was put to death on a CROSS.

Hi Contagion; I watched a programme here in the UK a few weeks ago about crucifixion.A guy was 'crucifying' volunteers(with bands rather than nails!)But it was very painful all the same.He concluded that jesus had to have been in an arms out stretched position as if his hands were above his head he would have died in minutes...(I seem to remember being told by an elder once the complete opposite!)Apparently the hands above the head position would 'crush' the victim...Looks like when you look at it closely it dos'nt stand up to scrutiny...again!

: Cross: Jesus did not die on a cross. He died on a pole, or a stake.

They're both wrong. The whole thing was a mistranslation. I have it on good authority that Jesus actually died on a steak. They didn't have the Heimlich maneuver back then, and so he choked to death. You won't read stuff like that in any Bible commentaries, because such an end to a man who claimed to be the son of God himself would not look good for believers in future generations.

"The bible is so vaugue on so many matters it must not be important to God either or he would have clarified many, many things."

    Exactly!!!!

Which states to me that God doesn't want us to sweat the details as much as he wants us to understand the concepts, principles, and morals and apply them to our everyday lives...

That is the "good news" of Jesus' message, not that he died on a Cross or Stake... It doesn't change the message one way or the other..

And to think that Jesus/Jehovah would be soooo vain to punish his children for not properly understanding exactly how he died .vs. the message of what he was trying to teach us because he died is ludicrous to say the least!!!!

The JW's (and some other religious groups too) are sooo engrossed in details and looking for absolutes that they miss the principles (the real "good news" and message) the bible is trying to convey in the first place...

They are indeed the modern day Pharisee's that Jesus warned about..!!

It's the old "Cannot see the forest through the trees" syndrome...

If only the JW's could grasp this simple scripture:

1 John 4:16 - So we know and believe the love God has for us. God is love, and he who abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him.

The JW's talk about love, but their version certainly doesn't show and resemblence to the love talked about in the bible!!!!

I've reached a point that even atheists/agnostics/wiccans/JW/ whatever the *** can all live with:

    1) Jesus would have TOLD us if it mattered whether God is a three-in-one, a two-in-one, or a HOLE-in-one.

    2) Jesus would have TOLD us if it mattered whether he died on a light pole or a telephone pole.

Hugs to everyone who's posted on this thread.
