A bill by Sen. William ``Pete'' Knight would require that all California schoolchildren say the Pledge of Allegiance daily. Under SB 1248, public school teachers would have to lead students in saying the pledge at the beginning of each school day.

This is very interesting, Although I seriously doubt it would pass. I do not support it. What would happen if it did? What would JW's do in this situation? Pull thier kids out of school? I have often wondered as well, why don't JW's start their own JW schools? It makes more sense to completely shelter children form the "worldies"?

    What do you guys think?

But when Saddam Hussein makes it a law to say that Iraqs pledge of allegiance, he's walking on the freedom and rights of others?

But the good ol' USofA can do what it wants?

Saying the pledge of allegiance is tantamount to worshipping an idol. When 9/11 happened and shortly there after, everyone was making their allegiance to "God and country undeniably and inseparably linking patriotism and worship to God virtually synonymous.

Assholes who think they can speak for others and/or ask you to buy into their short sited ideas.

I've got nothing against the Pledge of Allegiance in schools. I remember that by the time I reached middle school, it was no longer something we did in the mornings. It would be a good thing to bring it back, but not a good idea to make it mandatory.

The Pledge of Allegiance always seems to be more than a bit sinister and rather right wing to me, or maybe thats just me being a typical wet European.

I am not and never was a JW but I still think it is wrong to force patriotism on school students.

today, all the JW kids have to do is justb stand by their desks and say nothing... there is not any pressure on them to have to say or repeat anything.

It won't fly... the idea has already been through the courts years ago and was shot down. This politician is just show-boating for his conservative constituents. When it is shot down he will be able to go to them and moan and groan about how the Left-Wing-Anti-American-Atheists-Psycho-Nazi-Fascists are taking over .

they have always said the pledge of allegiance in my son's school anyway. it's never bothered me. what would bother me would be school prayer, err. and it never bothered my son. they play the star-spangled banner at baseball games and everyone stands, many with their hands over their hearts and no one seems upset. you can always spot the witnesses, they conveniently disappear and then come back to their seats right after, ha. actually i don't know if they're witnesses, i just assume. so anyway it's two minutes out of your day and doesn't harm you spiritually or mentally, and we are americans, after all, so what's the big deal?

anyway, who gives a crap if it bothers jehovah's witnesses? if they don't like it, build their own damn schools...

Giantjason, Back in the mid seventies, the JW's tried to open a series of schools in the Southern California area. I remember this cause I was going to go to one of these " havens from the worldleys". Guess what happened? The Jw's who were in charge of the money and finance decided to take money and split. This was kept very hush hush as you never hear of it now.. Trust me it did happen..
