    Realist,

This subject matter would take volumes of post's to give all the information. There are dozens of books on the subject that give thousands of references. I'm not sure of which splinter group you are speaking of but you may be referring to the Gnostics. They are the ones that many claim to have written several more gospel accounts of Jesus than the four that were chosen to show up in the bible.

Just as anything throughout history events and stories are changed by those who are trying to portray their personal view and beliefs. Every religious faction writes books and literature to try and expand on what they feel is the accurate. The bible as many old religious books have been manipulated and crafted to fit specific dogma. Various religions then take what they feel the bible says and give their own interpretation of it's words.

History and archeological evidence point to one thing and religious propaganda points to another. When Religious propaganda mixes fragments of history with unprovable myth you end up getting what you have today. Speculation and faith based on individual interpretation and personal desire are what all religion is based on.

The stories of Krishna and Buddha were written hundreds of years before Christ supposedly walked the earth. Some of the stories of both previous god-men read almost word for word as stories in the bible.

One that struck me as absolut plagiarism is the story about the woman who's son dies and she asked Jesus to help. He sent her out to find a household where they had not lost a loved one to death. She was told to get a mustard seed from every family who had suffered this loss. She came back with a hand full of mustard seed. This story was written almost word for word about Buddha hundreds of years before the same exact almost word for word story was written about Jesus.

There are hundreds of similar stories that match. You can figure out the rest yourself. Personally my days of research on this issue are over. I simply do not care anymore. It's all bullshit to me.

And moses was inspired by all his book learnin in Alexandria and stole the ten commandments from another culture. (someone wiser than me can tell me exactly which culture it was--some king, Hamurabi?...brain hurts)

At the core most religions teach a lot of the same moral codes, and respect, and etc. Similarities usually outweigh the doctrinal differences. But it's the little differences that usually get blown out of proportion. Did Jesus copy Buddist teachings? Who knows. Buddism is an offshoot of Hinduism, Hinduism was a coming together of all sorts of regional faiths/beliefs. If you go back far enough you can find links to all faiths, and they all blend and rub off on each other. That's why there are so many faiths. Some guy comes along and picks and chooses what he likes from this and that, and BINGO BANGO, you got yourself a new faith to bugger with peoples minds...weee!

First of all, this isn't actually Becky, but for some reason, it won't let me open an account from the same computer. Anyway, I wanted to drop a line and let Francois know that his first response sent an increadible vibration through me! I was buzzing the whole time I was reading it! You put into excellent words the thoughts that were going through my head! Thank you!

Fred, I think you need to do a little more reading before you spout off about something that you know absolutely nothing about. Tell me, was Avelokitsvara there "eating doughnuts" too?, what about Manjushri? I hear his favorite was the Baverian Creme filled? And you mention nothing about Siddhartha's six years of ascetism before he gained enlightenment under the bodhi tree? Did he have this fondness for doughnuts during this phase too?Oh well, I'm sure you have some well thought out and researched answers to these questions. Please! Enlighten me!

    Namaste,

    seven,

i totally agree..it is all bullshit...despite the fact that many religious founders had probably good intentions.

i have to say...if i wouldn't be in biology already i would start to study psychology...i find it fascinating how people can get absolutely convinced of such in part ludicrous stories for which there absolutely NO proof.

    Realist,

Now your talking. Psychology is great. Getting inside of peoples head is a lot of fun. When you are done you can spot little games like the one You Know plays on this board every day. Most people have no idea why they do the things they do, they just do them. Psychology will help you understand all the weirdness in the world.

If you get into it a lot try learning hypnosis, now that is fun for the whole family.

    Take care

Dave: Jesus and buddah. Both were acclaimed as the Creator:

I have always wondered how all the poor saps in the world down thru the ages who do not know of, have never heard of, ....either one of these guys.....were supposed to function properly in life without these guys direction? If either one is divine from God......how are others to benifit from them ....if they have no way of finding out about them because of their circumstances?

Some of you are placing Buddha in the same ideology. This depends on on the type of buddhism but some do not see Buddha as a deity figure but more of a role model to emulate. Paul claimed Jesus to be Gods son even though I doubt Jesus ever actually said that. So you're making Buddha into a God and Jesus into a God which is not entirely true.

On a side note, I love psychology. Being the career student that I am I've taken just about every psych. class my local college has. I think anyone who has a slight interest would be fascinated.
