I was just thinking that no where in the bible does it say that we must go to x number of hours of meetings or days of conventions. Even the apostles didn't micromanage things to the extent the gb do. People had arguments and disputes and were allowed to speak their mind and disagree. Are the GB better than the apostles?
I agree with 3rd gen, you have more power than you think.
I have not been able to receive the FM broadcast of the convention here, but I HAVE tried. Shame.

I dont know how this never dawned on me even after being a JW for what seemed like a million years but NO ONE in the history of the Bible was ever asked for the level of time commitment the modern day Witnesses are asked of by the G.B.
The summer conventions and 2 assemblies during the year are supposedly patterned after the Jews coming together 3 times a year.
But they didnt have to go to 5 meetings a week! They didnt have to do the "preaching work".
By the time things got to the early Christians, they no longer had to observe the Jewish calendar or the festivals.
Only NOW is there a combining of EVERYTHING in the old and new Testament being heaped on modern day JWs.
goingthruthemotions10 hours agoSo you all know that my wife is still blinded....i am well awake and so are our son's. So she is expecting me to use my vacation time from work to attend the D.C. Waste 3 days of dribble from the cult.
What of waste of time....yet i will do it to keep the peace. she will never wake up and it sucks.
You have my sympathies. I went along for years before I managed to extricate myself.
Is there any chance that you could go half the time and take the kids somewhere educational the other half? A museum or some such?
If that would flip her out too bad, then Im guessing these are early days in the stream of this whole thing for you.
In that case, never underestimate the power of plying her with temptation. Sleep in...go late...leave early for a special movie and or dinner.
(This may work better on Sunday when she is sick and tired of it all herself!)

It's highly contagious so you should not be at the convention. Drop everyone off and "go back to your room", which means lounge around reading or relaxing at the hotel, or sight see.

I hear there is a particularly serious strain of Man Flu expected to hit your neighborhood this summer. You and your sons can expect sweating, stomach cramps, headaches, flatulence, and explosive diarrhea for a couple of hours every morning until the uninfected female leaves the house. Then the males will feel fantastic and have fun for hours until the uninfected female returns home and the men's symptoms return.
The worst of the symptoms last for about 3 days. And it's quite likely that the infection will be preceded by the rumor that a man's coworkers have exhibited the same symptoms a few days earlier.
No need to see a doctor for this. Doctors have received worldly higher education from Satan's system and most of them believe in evolution. I suggest relying on Jehovah to see whether he can protect you from Man Flu before the crapvention (he can't) or provide you with speedy recovery after the crapvention (let's just pretend that he can).
Edit to add: I'm starting to feel sick to my stomach and dizzy just thinking about ever attending a crapvention again.
