Recess is over, children. Back in the classroom. Put your books away and take out one sheet of paper and a pen. Pop quiz.

    1. Just let me know
      If you wanna go
To that home out on the range
    2. With my New Yawk brim and my gold tooth displayed
Nobody give me trouble cuz they know I got it made
    3. That's not jewelry she's talkin' 'bout
It really don't cost that much
    4. I been bad, I been good
      Dallas, Texas; Hollywood
    5. I spied a little thing and I followed her all night
In her funky fine levis and her sweater's kind of tight
    6. Top coat... top hat...
      I ain't worried cuz my wallet's fat.
    7. If I blow my top
Will you let it go to your head?
    8. You got me trying new things too
Just so I can keep up with you.
    9. Well after runnin' round a time or two
I found out only the best will do

    O-

Geewiz I thought for a min I hit the jack pot. One of these days I'll beet cowboy. I'm getting suspicious. hummm.

I watched Austin City Limits last night. 1st time in long time.

Eliza Gilkyson was on and sang a song she wrote about her Dad & the EasyRiders.

It was a great song. wiping tear from eye. The name of the song is "Easyrider" I'll be looking for the CD

    So anything goes now?

    Her personality unwinds
Just like a ball of twine
On a spool that never ends
Just when I think I know her well
    Her emotions reveal,
    She's not the person that
    I though I knew

    Knowbody guessed this one

I'll give the initials of the performer as anyother lyrics will give the song away, I think.

    Dayum, Cowboy, good shooting!

    "Pull!" Boom! (shatter)
    "Pull!" Boom! (shatter)
    "Pull!" Boom! (shatter)

I was going to post sound bites of the last two, but unfortunately, I discovered I don't have them. And, at least right now, can't find them on Bearshare. Well, poop. No prizes for guessing what band did 'em...

I guess I must have very eclectic music tastes compared to the rest of you, though I always thought I was pretty mainstream for the time I grew up in. But nobody ever seems to get the majority of lyrics I post on this thread.

Ah, well, it's been a week on these, so I'll be merciful and provide the answers:

    2. Through all efforts you've been changing, getting a little bit better, no doubt
The doctor bit was so far out
Looking through crystal spectacles, I can see you've had your fun
Epistle to Dippy, by Donovan. The name may not ring a bell, but you'd know it if you heard it, I guarantee.
    3. Ah, the lovers as they run through the night
Leaving nothing for the others but to choose off and fight
And tear at the world with all their might
While the ships bearing their dreams sail out of sight
The Pretender, by Jackson Browne. How could no one have gotten this one?
    4. Love, like the autumn sun
Should be dying, but it's only just begun
Like the twilight in the road up ahead
We can't see just where we're goin'
And all the secrets in the universe...
We May Never Pass This Way Again, by Seals and Crofts. Another moderately big hit in its day.
    6. My father was a fisherman, my mama was a fisherman's friend
And I was born in the boredom and the chowder.
And when I reached my prime, I left my home in the Maritimes,
Headed down the turnpike to New England, sweet New England
    Duncan, by Paul Simon.

Thanks, Neon. I don't even recognize the name of the Donovan tune. The Pretender... well, I know the song when I hear it, but I never was much of a Jackson Browne fan, so I didn't pay much attention to his lyrics. Seals and Crofts, I remember the song, but again did not pay much attention to the words. Both Brown and S&C had a tendency to write songs that lacked that special hook to make the lyrics stick in your brain. Strange, how something as meaningful as "Love, like the autumn sun, should be dying, but it's only just begun" would not find a permanent niche, but "yellow mallow custard dripping from a dead dog's eye" does. Hmm.

Back to the 80's (my apologies if we've already done any of these,i'm not looking back to see)

I got me a car, it seats about twenty
So c'mon and bring your jukebox money

I pass my time with strangers
But this bottle's my only friend

Maybe we could walk around all day long
    Walk around all day long

    We all need the clowns
    To make us smile

She's a good girl, crazy 'bout Elvis
Loves horses and her boyfriend too
