The World cup is NOT important. very few Americans can stand the dam game. I'd rather watch my toenails grow.

I've never seen a live game of American football, I have watched it for a few minutes on telly but I was quickly bored. I will grant that if I knew more about the game I might not have been so bored.
I don't think that most Americans have ever attended a proffesional soccer match, however on a few occasions when I have taken visiting Yanks to an English game they have been astonished at just how physical a game it is.
They were also amazed at the atmosphere.
So there.

Just a little fun.
Obviously if I were brough up across the pond, I would be mad about soccer and wouldn't care less about American football.
Peace and good luck in the tournament.

I can't believe some of you are writing off real football before your team is even out. Don't worry - it wont be too long.

Well, I agree that most American don't enjoy soccer. I suppose it's for the same reasons most Americans prefer Budweiser or Miller. They have poor taste. [g] As an athlete and a spectator I enjoy most sports. I suppose it's because I understand the hard work involved in playing any sport. Each has it's own unique qualities and I like them all. I personally wish there was more general interest in soccer in this country. It seems to me that most american sports activities are too commercial and focus too much on personalities instead of the sport. I dare any multi-million dollar baseball player to keep up with me on the soccer field. That's not to say that soccer is better than baseball. But it is a different game with it's own set of demands. One of which is constant running. I don't think Sammy Sosa could keep up!
I think the women's national team showed that it is possible to generate interest in the sport here in the states. Maybe if the boys could figure out how to win people would start paying attention.

It's not a matter of taste or boredom. It's just that soccer (football..sorry..) is not promoted here past the age of 10. I used to play soccer and it was a lot of fun. You can't love what you don't know. Besides, don't you enjoy having this over the Americans?? Do you really want to provoke them into dominating yet another sport?? :)

Naeb, what do you mean another sport? Look what just happened in the boxing. And, you can't count WWF wrestling you know, or can you?
