    1. Didn't understand it.

Actually, I didn't notice it for a long time. Then I asked some other's (elder & a pioneer) to explain it to me......they laughed and said they didn't understand it either.

I said "But..........isn't that what a lot of religions teach - that the End will come sometime?"

They laughed, threw their hands in the air and said "Whatever the Society says............."

    Ozzie,

About the time of the generation change, my Mum stopped applying DF'ing restrictions on myself and kid bro.

Although she still associates regularly, she is nowhere near as devout as she was before then. She now goes dancing, comes to my home on frequent week-long visits and is much less prudish.

I'd have to say #12 along with Paula (surprise! lol) only it was delayed a bit in my case, as Path mentioned.

I remember being vaguely disturbed about it when I privately studied it, hoping that the meeting comments would make me feel better and, of course, they didn't.

Then, when the "sheep vs. goats" things came along and I recognized it for PRECISELY the same thing that I was taught in my Lutheran church and had heard in the Catholic Church growing up, I began to have a clue that Brooklyn DIDN"T have a clue, was NOT God's mouthpiece. These two articles were the doctrinal beginning of the end for me (although I never really believed my merciful God would destroy 99% of mankind at Armageddon). Therefore my meeting attendance began to decline and I cracked open my New Jerusalem Bible, King James Version, Good News, New American Bible ... well, you get the picture!

    Cheers to you, Ozzie!

We missed out on this change that wasn't "really" a change. We stopped attending meetings as of January 1, 1995.

But it was interesting that, in the months prior to this, as our faith in the BOrg was unravelling like a moth-eaten sweater with every new thing we were learning, I mentioned to hubby something to the effect that the "generation" teaching is going to have to change in order to push the end further into the future, so that the WTS would avoid another 1975-type fiasco.

We were still receiving the magazines, and when the November issues arrived and I read some e-mail about "new light" on the "generation" teaching, I realized that I was a better prophet than the WTS (which only claims the gift of prophecy when they expect people to swallow their tripe on pain of disfellowshipment).

    Love, Scully

Hey Ozzie: Good poll. I pick:

    6. Who turned "the light" on in Brooklyn?

The change brought them closer, in fact very close, to what Christendom has been saying for hundreds of years. And at this rate, in another 20 years, the Society will be getting new light that God really is a Trinity, we really do have a soul, and that Russell and Ruthrford likely went to Hell.

I was already inactive and headed out, although I didn't realize it. So, for me, it was just one more nail in the coffin, so to speak. I still tried to defend them, but my conscience was wearing on me until I finally had enough harrassment from them and DA'd

#10. Like Francios, I had been out many years, and did not learn of the change until I came here, but I was not surprised.

Wonder who's weak enought to fall off coz of this?'

Oh man (hands over face), I just realized that's exactly how I felt. I was such a self righteous prick!

I was at Bethel when that change was announced. There was ALOT of talk in the family. I was a new boy at the time and I just kept my head down for the most part, but I do recall the "Bethel Elder (a step above your average Elder -- Bethel appointed)" that drove us out to our hall in Queens telling us to send anyone with questions to him. But I didn't talk significantly to anyone at the KH who had questions -- I think, as some have already said, most witnesses just didn't take notice. The slave had spoken.

We were already on our way out, and we thought the dubs will say we were stumbled by the change in generation teaching. And that is what happened too.

    So, what number is that?
