Please note the article is on "right side" with a "tan coloured background". This is Page 81 of the June 24, 2002 edition (on sale now - as of June 17, 2002). It's a small article but .....!!!!! ...... ..... It is right beside the Catholic issue as reported by Newsweek. Thus, a lot of people reading the Catholic Issue will focus on this article as well - you can't miss it - great optics

    Hahahaha

I love the little caption below the picture of the Magazines ....

FAITH: These magazines by Jehovah's Witnesses are used to help recruit new members

Yep, that about sums it up in my books - its all about recruitment - nothing else.

Also, I like the way Heather Berry bitch slaps good old JR Brown at the end for his disgusting ad hominem comment.

    OK, Activists!

Time to write to Newsweek to publicize the website run by former elder William H. Bowen --

www.silentlambs.org -- which is, unfortunately, not mentioned in the sidebar article.

    Also, question to JR Brown:

Why do you think 'people who accuse the church are often lapsed Witnesses'? It wouldn't have

anything to do with the way the Organization's policies caused the elders to treat these abuse

    victims, would it?

    Witness To ShameRipple effects:

Another religion faces a scandal of its own

By Julie Scelfo NEWSWEEK June 24 issue

As Roman Catholic bishops issued a mea culpa last week, Jehovahs Witnesses, a cloistered group of 980,000, moved closer to facing a sex-abuse scandal of their own. In January a woman from Sacramento, Calif., filed a lawsuit charging that church leaders knowingly failed to notify civil authorities that she was raped by a member of her congregation.

A FORMER CHURCH leader in Maryland was indicted in February for sexually assaulting three women who say they were told by elders not to report the abuse, and were excommunicated when they did. After additional stories aired recently on TV, a victims support group run by William H. Bowen was deluged with e-mails and phone calls. Catholics only protect the priests. Jehovahs Witnesses do it for any member of the church, says Bowen, a former elder from Kentucky.

    Day of Atonement

Sara Poisson says that prior to her husbands conviction for sexually abusing her daughters, church elders told her to pray more and be a better wife. Church spokesman J. R. Brown says the group instructs local leaders to notify police when required by law. They also conduct their own investigation: That consists of going directly to the accused. If someone confesses, says Brown, he will be prohibited from going door-to-doorunless accompanied by another Witness. Brown points out that people who accuse the church are often lapsed Witnesses, and open prey for exploiters. But victims like Poissons daughter, Heather Berry, 20, say its the church that does the exploiting. Theyre letting the kids down. I dont think theres anything Christian about allowing abuse to continue.

    Thanks Hawkaw!!!

J.R.Brown is out the door (unfortunately, since he did us more good than he did his 'own' side) and some other person is being disengenuous in his place.

Inch by inch a concerned and educated public is starting to take issue with Watchtower's deceptive recruting tactics and 'Theocratic War Strategy'.

Watchtower's response was to say 'Satan' was responsible for the opposition to these recruiting tactics and public lying.

Then, realizing how stupid that sounds, even to a child, Watchtower backpedaled and said it was 'disgruntled' former members.

Now Watchtower is backpedaling some more and saying it is 'lax former members'.

Soon they will backpedal some more and say it is 'weak present members.'

Yes indeedy, 'spiritually strong' active JW's engage in 'Theocratic War Strategy' and deceptive recruiting practices.' That is their 'mark' and proof of God's blessing and approval.
