Ballistic,
..and I can never understand why people say England supporters are fanatical. We're very laid back about the whole thing...
From BBC News at http://news.bbc.co.uk/hi/english/uk/england/newsid_2055000/2055310.stm England's call for 'Hand of God' The football prayer asks for God's help A leading Church of England liturgist is hoping to ensure England's World Cup success against Brazil by writing a special prayer.
The Reverend Jeremy Fletcher, chaplain to the Bishop of Southwell in Nottinghamshire, was inspired to ask for heavenly help following the recent call in national newspapers to pray for Beckham's broken metatarsal to heal.
In his prayer, entitled A Prayer for the Quarter Final, Mr Fletcher asks God to "lift up his hand and confound the might of Ronaldo and Rivaldo".
Failing that, he asks God to award England a "dubiously offside goal" in the last minute of the game allowing them to go through to the final.
Mr Fletcher told the BBC's Breakfast programme: "Someone suggested as a result of Beckham's foot prayer that the Church of England should provide an official one as a spoof and that the church should put together some prayers for the England team in general.
"I had an idle moment so I thought I would give it a go.
"The more interesting question that was raised out of this is you have to ask whose side God is on.
"Lots of people seem to be thinking that God might be on our side."
The Bradford City supporter has also written a litany, or supplicatory prayer, to be chanted in the event of a penalty shoot-out.
The litany, which has been set to music and broadcast on BBC Radio Nottingham, begins: "O Seaman make speed to save us, O Martyn make haste to help us."
A PRAYER FOR THE QUARTER FINAL
Arise, O Lord, and let not Brazil prevail over us,
Put them in fear O Lord.
Rise up, O Lord, lift up your hand,
Confound the might of Ronaldo and Rivaldo
And put Ronaldinho to confusion.
O God, if nothing else, award us a dubiously offside goal in the last minute,
That the world may know that you are our God,
And through you we will triumph over our adversaries,
This time making it all the way to the final,
Even if it is on a Sunday and no one will go to church.
Amen

What I find interesting is that on a web site dominated by Americans, there is very little talk of sport, not even the US national sports.
That is an interesting observation. I'm not sure I have the answer for it. Now, I'm certainly no sports fanatic, but I know a lot for a [b]girl[b]
Here is a list of the sports that I follow:
ProFootball (The American kind) regular season and playoffs
College Football (Go Fresno State!)regular season and playoffs
Pro Basketball (Playoffs only)
College Basketball-Mens and womens (casually) Follow March Madness
Tennis (casually)
Womens college softball (Go! Fresno State!)
Nascar (casually)
NHRA Drag Racing
Golf
Figure Skating (I have watched every Olympics since 1968)
Gymnastics (mens and womens)
Local high school sports
What I pretty much ignore:
Baseball (sometimes watch "World" series)
Hockey
Also I will remind this thread that the US won the womens World Cup in 2000. How come England doesn't have a womens team? Germany, Brazil, and Sweden does.
I don't know how many US men here are serious sports followers, but I'm thinking that perhaps if there are several maybe it's a good thing they don't discuss it here. We have enough flame wars already!
Edited to add: Go England! and of course, USA!

Well; Polo and three day eventing are my 'thing';but I think Brazil are going to have too many ego's on the pitch and England will win if they stay disiplined;it's usually the cooler heads that walk away...I'll hazard a guess at 1-1 before extra time and 2-1 to ENGLAND
and let's hope Teddy gets on the pitch as he'll fire them up when they start to flag...Oh, and if he scores he'll take his shirt off.......
I'm watching the first half with my son and daughters and they'll watch the second half at school dressed up in their flags and Sven masks!
they're setting up giant screens and football breakfasts for them;i'm impressed!

Well....at least I have a better prophecy record then the WTBTS.

Seaman looked devastated, letting in that soft goal will haunt him for years.
