So Would You Enjoy Blood For Grub?

On 2 recent occasions I have been joined for breakfast by 2 separate individuals, both ex-witnesses.

Stunningly - to me anyway - both were absolutely appalled when, for my "Choose any 7 items for 1.99" brekky I opted to include black sausage. Just love the way those black bits mix into the egg-yolk, mmm!

I digress, both were horrified at my choice, saying that even though they had been away from dub-dom for many, many years, there was no way they could ever eat anything that contained blood. Never not ever.

How do you feel about it, could you enjoy deliberately eating a blood product? Or would you be waiting for a bolt of lightning to fry you on the spot?

Huh. I thought for sure this was another vampire thread....

(In any case, foods with blood in them just aren't served over here as a matter of course. I'm sure you could probably find some if you really looked, but you WOULD have to really look)

A lifetime of indoctrination has meant that I am a complete haemophobic. The thought of black pudding absolutely repulses me - it's strange isn't it? I think you hit on an really interesting thought here E'man!

Well, well, E-Man: I just don't know, sort of, that is. After leaving the organization, I saw my wife's nephew with a blood drip just after surgery ... and I felt weird, but they were never JWs, and who was I to judge. Then, shortly after my oldest daughter gave birth, she got a pint of blood. Sooooo ... I suppose that blood sausage is just another step, though eating and transfusinmg are entirely different things.

Even the meat we eat will always have a little bit of blood left in it. So, if these ex-JW friends of yours think about it, when they eat beef, they are getting a little blood every time.

For me, the thought of eating blood, as in blood sausage, is not desirable ... and I would not do it, not because of any JW teaching, but because it just does not appeal to me, much the same as snake meat, brussel sprouts, and escargot do not really appeal to me.

    EEEWWW!

No blood sausage, etc. for me.

Every once in a while, while eating a nice steak, you look down and see all that red stuff.....hmmm, I know it's blood, watered down. But, I eat it anyway. The potato works particularly well sopping it all up! Yum.

So, I am a hypocrite. I eat that, but not blood sausage.

As kids my mom (ardent JW you know) used to slip ground beef heart into our hamburgers, meatloaf, etc. I found the package in the garbage can and my told my dad. He freaked and demanded she not use it ever again. (I never liked organs...they mean more somehow than just the meat)

She had no problem feeding us heart, liver, etc, but she will not get a transfusion. Go figure that logic out.

    borderline vegetarian

OH NO! Not another one!! AAAAAH!!!!

(Hey, wait a minute, yesterday you said going out for a philly steak made you feel better. Now, I agree with this logic, but that doesn't seem very vegetarian to me....[:\])

    black pudding

I think I'll go back to the whole vampire thing. Interesting in that context, but as an ingredient in food? I dunno, it does sounds a little...weird.
