Germany neither lost the war nor came 2nd. It was divided into 3 states and now there are 2 states inclusive austria, which is more german than the germans and these send mr schickelhuber :-) Luxemburg is a german state too with french destination reasoned by the desire to be different from the germans. but we speak german at home.

on the other hand the former enemies made Germany more effective: less country, cheaper structures and concentrated experiences. So Poland now has lot of Wheat and Oat and Barley, they can feed the EU in future.

the 15 million refugees from the east were assimilated meanwhile and made a new nation of McDonalds und Burger Kings.

I guess they will win against uncle sam in soccer, England will loose against Bresil and the Truks will rise against Senegal.

if the turks get the bowl I guess that McDonald will be anmed into McDoener and Burger King into Cevap Kral.

But I enjoy the games and find much sympathy for those. crews that do a top soccer If Senegal would become the n^1 I guess the world economy would increase much more: every AFrican would buy a ball and a whistle and between Limpopo and Sambesi they would call for Cecil Rhodes as referee.

    Rule Senegal

In the US Soccer has somehow become the second most popular sport with people under 18, just behind basketball. Don't ask me why I can't figure it out, maybe a major failure of the American school system.

I was watching the riot and a football game broke out.

Whenever I see this little bit of pompous british flag waving and America bashing, from a country that can only beat America in one sport, for now, it's pretty laughable. I'll still cheer for England despite some of the class fans. Hey maybe you guys can look forward to another season of fistfights and riots at your matches soon???

My favorite British Player of all time? George Best. The man could hold his own both on the field and in a pub.

    .

    What's a class fan?

Been to over 600 games, only seen violence a couple of times.

    He was an Irishman.

Englishman, and hey, you never hear me criticising the Yanks, do you?

Hey look at this letter in today's Times:

Soccer stars and stripes fever From Mr Chris Nordstrom
Sir, It seems to be widely believed that, despite the success of the US football team, the average American doesnt care about the outcome of the World Cup and, in fact, many do not even realize that the games are currently taking place (reports, June 18 and World Cup supplement, June 19).

In my experience here in Chicago, all the talk around the water cooler revolves around the success of our team. In fact, most of the people discussing the games have been waking up at 1am just so they can see the action live, instead of on replay. The number of people walking in the streets with dark circles under their eyes due to lack of sleep is astounding.

The lack of interest in the games is not by the fans but instead on the part of the corporations who control television access. In Chicago the only games live on free television are in Spanish. Many people are watching games in local pubs and holding World Cup parties.

We are far from experiencing the same level of hysteria that English fans have shown, but we certainly arent as uninterested as many people seem to believe. If the success of our team continues, perhaps the world will get to see just how excited American soccer fans can get.

    Yours faithfully,
    CHRIS NORDSTROM,
    5240 North Sheridan,

    June 19.

J ust knew you guys were faking disinterest!

    of course not, NEVER.

    He was an Irishman
George was Irish, that could explain the pubs AND the temper but I loved to watch him play. I lived in San Jose when he was playing for the Earthquakes

Now when you brought up Lewis I thought you were going to head for Tyson and tell me you're grateful that thug isn't a soccer fan.

I do get the flag waving, it sells papers but right now I'm very tired of it. I live in the sticks and half the big pick-up trucks driving by are flying an American flag twice the size of the truck. Eventually the taliban or somone else will attack us again and the flag waving is only to get worse. I think that the British are a huge target also as you naughty boys have participated in the extermination of the taliban. I"ll bet your boys become BIG flag wavers when that happens. Heck Englishman, you'll probably get the Union Jack tattoo on your buttocks.
