    JW victims of child molestation:

The best source of information on your legal position is a lawyer with experience in this type of case. Although litigation may produce compensation and personal closure, there are negative aspects as well, including likely intense and sometimes humiliating questioning during depositions and the possibility of being required to testify in a trial. The settlement amounts bantered about here are not worthy of consideration as they are meaningless. Every case is unique, and settlements depend on many circumstances, including without limitation the motivation of the defendant to settle the case. Quantification of a standard settlement is impossible.

Remember, there is no such thing as a free lunch. Make sure you do your homework before jumping into something you don't know about.

free lunch? ........... jw victims........... if you have suffered the humiliation of being molested over and over, and the elders told you......"you don't have 2 witnesses".......... you deserve to be compensated......... don't let anyone tell you your motives are bad.

    Listen cd2,

I work with Bill and Barb on a lot of this stuff to get this message of victim abuse out and I work a lot up here in Canada too on this issue too.

Yes victims, if they want too, deserve not only compensation but an apology from the various WTS corporations.

But pay attention to what I said. My goal IS NOT scare anyone away. But I just told them the facts the way they should be presented.

And BTW, 144T&1 was NOT telling anyone about their motives being bad.

You sound and twist things like the Major Spry, Director, Hospital Information Services.

And BTW if you are a victim - you can be older than 20 too and still go after them in tort law and in some cases criminal law too.

    Crawdad,

No one is questioning the motivation of those who seek redress as it is irrelevant. However, your references to monetary compensation (i.e. $450K) are misleading. Victims should seek counsel from an appropriately qualified attorney, not someone who is absolutely incompetent as a legal advisor but uses large fonts.

    Hawkaw,

Great points, especially about the statutes of limitations. I believe the criminal statutes of limitations tend to be longer than the civil ones, but I think there's a better source than me for information on this right on this board. Kimberlee Norris is an attorney who specializes in this type of case, and she is posting here under the name "Concerned Lawyer." She has already posted a good amount of information on the subject and may be a very good resource for someone considering their options.

jw victims.......... don't let these people scare you off,........ you can win in court....... yes you can,.... if you can produce facts........ the lawyers of the gov body are in deep trouble...... your factual testimony about the "elders silencing you"..... because of not having "2 witnesses"....... and them not directing you to call the police, or warning you to be silent about the matter, under threat of disipline ........will nail them......... go for it!!!!!........ you deserve to be compensated.

    Are you sober?

    cd2,

Respectfully I would support a lawsuit if one wants to take the plunge. I am just stating facts.

Resepectfully I urge you to stop the nonsense now.

    144,

The statute of limitations is somewhat different in tort law where I live and I think probably where you live too. Where I live it usually is about 8 months from the time you become aware you believe that were "wronged" by the party. So say 20 or even 30 years ago someone screwed you over and you found out about what they did to you today (ie you found out that the WTS knew about the pedophile before he raped you and they did nothing to protect you from him) then you have 8 months from today to start your case. Good lawyers can weasel around a statute of limitations for a tort case. Of course criminal cases are a little different. A lot of rape cases are 10 years from when the apparent "offence" was committed and of course other crimes do not have a statute of limitations such as murder.

144,000 and one,........ good point, am i sober!.......... yes i am!!!!....... but alot of the victims are not,,,,,, their lives are so screwed up......many of them are disfellowshipped.....for various things....like drugs, and they might even have a criminal record....... because molestation victims often find it hard to deal with what is happening to them, and they go off the deep end......... and it all stems from being molested, and how it was silenced by the elders.

i want them all to come forward and talk to an experienced attorney who is not afraid of the gov body's lawyers........ they are going to win.
