My Son is Going Back

Since he was 6 years old my son has been good friends with a boy in our hall, they are both in their teens now. His friend has recently tried to ignite their friendship again. I was happy for my son because this friend of his is really a great kid, a fine person.

Now my son is again attending meetings. He is attempting to fit in again because he has been so in need of friends since we left.

So, now I again iron his meeting shirts and help him with whatever I can.

Strange place I find myself in.

Is anyone here in the same place?

IW, I'm really sorry for what you and your son are going through. I can sympathize that your son wants a good friend... my worry is that the 'friend' from long ago is trying to rekindle the friendship to get a study going. Do you think this might be true? If they are really close, and your son is really benefitting from their friendship..then I think it might be alright. I just hope the jw kid has no hidden agendas. What do you think?

    Let us know what happens.

I am not in that situation anymore. For a while, my kids went to the meetings after I left. And this worried me some, but in time they stopped going as they built new friends outside the Hall ... it took several months ... so maybe this is just a phase for a while ... by keeping the lines of communication open and encouraging him to have friends from various sources ... maybe this will pass for him. It is awkward, as you mention, and not easy to deal with.

    Terafera,

This young man is a real nice kid, he and my son have been close friends since childhood. Of course my son's friend still thinks that the best way is the Watchtower way.

My son was in effect forced to leave the JWs because we left, now his friend has a drivers license and he is being as he always was: a good friend.

My problem is that I like this kid, he is a good kid and a good friend for my son. There is no one else for my son to link up with.

What a place for a mother!!

They should discover girls soon (seperately, together or simultaenously).......that should do it.

I would just make sure he gets an education. Odds are pretty good they both will leave at some point. This religion no longer makes sense to young people and I think it is a matter of time before all of them are gone.

Don`t worry about it IW.The novelty will soon wear off.Every once in a while my kids would go and I didn`t like it a dam bit.I let them and said nothing. Now their grown and want nothing to do with that crap. They see it for what it is,and they don`t like it...OUTLAW

Hey IW, he should get his friend out! How about inviting his friend over and make sure he sees that you are OK, do normal stuff etc. Errr....mention the internet?

I am disassociated. No way will his friend come over while I am home. I have though told my son that if he would like to invite his friend over I would go out that day.
