Well it has to go somewhere. Everyone loves the power but gets all squeamish when it's time to clean up the mess. Too bad we don't have perfectly safe launch platforms. If we had those we could send the waste into the sun or just store it on Jupiter. Heh, store...as if anyone wants to try and retrieve it from Jupiter.

They have been dumping waste in Hanford Washington for years. But, as long as we wish to use nuclear facilities, we are going to have waste. It has to go somewhere and end up somplace. We can't have it both ways.

Maybe going back to coal and using more effecient furnaces to cut down on pollution would be a help, I don't know enough about it (grew up in South Florida, didn't use a lot of coal down there)

It was on the local t.v. news here, where I got the web address. People who work near the rail line were interviewed. No one was in favor of the route passing through heavily populated cities. Suggestions are that you call your senator to voice your opposition; that is, if you have misgivings about the plan.

It's already in my neighborhood. I live about 10 to 15 miles from Sharon Harris nuclear plant.

I'm a little over 5 miles from the route in South Florida. Who cares. I'm trying to find a darn dog.

I'm 34 miles away and 150 from a dump. I'm 200 feet from my septic tank and I bet that has more potential health problems for me that anything going down I-5.

LB, you are indeed the voice of reason. There's more danger in living across the street from a high school than in having a transshipment of nuke waste go by. One can just imagine with what attention to saftey concerns the shipment was secured to the truck. And everyone in the gummint from the NRC, the Army, the FBI, and the American Dairy Association are likely hangin' out to make sure it stays safe over every inch of the route.

what i found interesting is that i'm in the 6 mile area of a transport route.

which isnt so bad, because i work within 1 mile of the pilgrim nuclear power plant in plymouth mass.

    so...

i'm toast if anything goes wrong there.

Our water here in Northern Calif...at least where I live....has low amounts of mercury in it from the old mining run-off water. Certain health problems exist here that are way higher than other areas.

Buried nuke waste probably poses less danger than this.
