i know this song is about something else entirely, but when i hear it i think of the jw childhood:
CLOSE EVERY DOOR - Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat
Close every door to me
Hide all the world from me
Bar all the windows
And shut out the light
Do what you want with me
Hate me and laugh at me
Darken my daytime
And torture my night
If my life were important I
Would ask will I live or die
But I know the answers lie
Far from this world
Close every door to me
Keep those I love from me
Children of Israel
Are never alone
For I know I shall find
My own peace of mind
For I have been promised
A land of my own
(Children's Choir):
Close every door to me
Hide all the world from me
Bar all the windows
And shut out the light
Just give me a number
Instead of my name
Forget all about me
And let me decay
I do not matter
I'm only one person
Destroy me completely
Then throw me away
If my life were important I
Would ask will I live or die
But I know the answers lie
Far from this world
Metatron,
I really enjoyed your post. It would be humorous.. if it weren't so absolutely true.
This is a keeper for me.

I&P,
That's a beautiful song and sadly, it sums up quite concisely the life of a JW child.
When I talk to my friends today about not celebrating birthdays and holidays, they always feel so sorry for me. I remember getting that kind of reaction from school kids when I was younger and back then I thought they were so deluded living from holiday to holiday. Now I am completely mortified by the reaction I had back then, actually feeling sorry for THEM because they weren't going to live forever in a blah, blah, blah...

Metatron...excellent post...one other point which always got me:
Highlight "priveleges" (such as holding mike, or cleaning or being an attendant) as if this was the main goal in life. As a result, establishing "classes" right before their eyes...the priveleged and everyone else. Everyone else gets to be "marked" as being not spiritual; not moving with the organization. Instilling bias (and the inevitable competition and pressure this may bring) in a young mind is the sick result!
Always apprecaite your insight !
I have applied this timely advice, and my family and children are all on the downward spiral that leads to hell! Ruined!
Thank YOU!
