    Hi Bang,

Could you restate that? For clarification of course.

Do you have an introduction that fits the material and your audience, also what public speaking points in particular were you emphazing? Volume, pausing, gestures?

If you have time to donate to a cause, perhaps something a little more constructive?. Are you doing this to satisfy feelings of anger and hoping for some small revenge against the WTS? The world needs more people like you who are willing to spend time helping others in some way and I admire your eagerness to get out and actually do something instead of just talk. I only wonder if your time would not an be better spent on those a liitle more in need. .

    Tdogg,

No, I'm doing this as an experiment. Concentrating in one small city just to see if the elephant scratches.

I certainly agree there are other worthwhile causes. I have also given quite a bit of thought to volunteering in local Nursing Homes etc. So many in those places are really alone and I think would enjoy having someone come by and read the paper for them or just to say: "hi how are you today?". I would enjoy that very much.

    Thanks for your input,

    Island Woman:

I would suggest that the JW's are doing a very effective job of demonsrating that going house-to-house is no longer a productive way to meet people. As you'll recall, in any one field service session, the vast majority of people were not at home, and the rest were mildly pissed off at being interupted.

So, maybe if you really want to get out there, how about composing some concise, factual flyers? That way you're not dependent upon actually meeting people. You could put a hotmail address on the flyer to gather any feedback, thus giving you a method of measuring impact and effectiveness.

Also, I don't know (nor am I prying) about the financial situation, but if it was manageable, you could pay a flyer delivery service. Then, while they did the hard work, you could sit back with a nice cuppa and write another flyer.

As for subjects? The risk of paedophiles calling at people's doors springs instantly to mind. Or a flyer aimed at a specific population segment e.g. women. A flyer telling them about the JW's changing position on women screaming during rape might get results. Hell, it gets me steamed, and I'm a cold-blooded Englishman!

Whatever you decide, I would be most interested in hearing your results, either on the board, or through e-mail.

I had a very effective discussion with about 10 of my workmates. Some of the girls were very upset about the pedophilia problem within the Catholic church. It was shortly after "Dateline" aired, and I had a copy of the tape in my knapsack (just like I used to carry a set of magazines in my purse when I was a dub LOL). I mentioned that while it is upsetting what is going on in the Catholic church, there are other churches that actually excommunicate victims and allow the pedophiles to remain members in good standing! They were shocked, and I suggested that they could watch the Dateline video when we were on break. So that's what we did.

They were horrified. (One of the ladies has a daughter whose mother-in-law is a dub, so she was particularly interested.)

By the end of the video, when Clement Pandelo was shown going door-to-door, they were utterly disgusted. "How can they let someone like THAT go out in public and claim to be a Christian?? I'll NEVER let them on MY doorstep again!"

Ten women, their spouses and children, who will NEVER give the JWs the time of day again.

Best day "in service" I've ever had.

    Love, Scully

    Expatbrit,

Thanks so much for the great suggestions and the encouragement, I will let you know what happens!

    Scully,

Hey, that was some experience! I can just see you giving your "witnessing" experience at the next BCRI Conference. Wouldn't that be great!

Sometimes I still feel as if I'm asleep and this whole religion thing has been a bad dream. But, gotta keep going and not dwell on the hurt, that's what works best for me anyway. If I dwell on the hurt too long I would be a psychological mess and of no use to anyone.

    Thank you both,

    IW
