My Story of Waking Up - in retrospect

It pays to be careful, I thought I had changed up enough details and events. About 6 months later, I got a private message, from someone telling me, he thought he knew who I was. After a week or so of pulling my hair out, and worrying, he told me he had visited my congragation, but I wasn't there, then he told me who gave the talk! Then he told me my wifes daughters name. Oh it scared the crap out of me, thinking I was going to be outed! Then we had a few chats, and a phone call or two! Then I went and spent the day, with him and his family!

Well it has turned out good to have someone with the same feeling's about the borg, plus he enlightened me even more!

Then about that time a young woman came on the board, and after her telling her story, it rang a bell. I knew who she was! I wanted to reach out to her, but I kept it to myself, for I didn't want to scare her, lijllike I was! But she stopped posting after a short time!

Cappy you are so talented and bright (and very funny to boot!)

You make me feel so hopeful about the young people still trapped in the Org.

You are proof that there is thinking going on "in there"

and now just look at you!

I turned in my DA letter to the Secretary. Got a call asking if I could meet. I specifically mentioned 607 BCE date being incorrect. School Overseer mentioned these two WT articles, which I had seen discussed on JWFacts. Printed the articles, highlighted the footnotes saying the experts quoted did not support 607 BCE and went to the meeting.

Three elders as usual, Secretary, School Overseer and my Service Group Leader. Handed the highlighted parts to them on the way out of the meeting. SILENCE.

Hello El Cappytan! You've come a long way, you! I'm actually kind of surprised it was the 607 and TOMO III "Tight Pants" thing. I would have thought Bethel service would be enough to awaken anyone to the incredible hypocrisy of the WT cult. Oh well, whatever gets you out!

I'm glad to hear your wife is on the outs as well.

Thanks for sharing your story. I think I finally spoke up here around the same time that you did. It is interesting to see the different paths that people take and what it is that finally makes them wake up. I read your experience to my wife and she thought it was interesting that the people are the most sincere (like you were) in the organization are often those that wake up because they will do the research to verify what they're teaching others. The organization needs those sincere people that care, but truly caring and not just following blindly will cause one's eyes to be opened. It is the opposite side of the uber dub card for many. Best wishes on your journey to find what you're looking for.

Good story, Cappytan. I enjoyed reading that. I agree that 607/587 was the lynchpin that took all of the support for the rest the doctrine away immediately. No chance of ever going back after learning that.

Thank you cappytan! I love posts like this - definitely the most helpful posts on here are people's real experiences of leaving the org, certainly for newbies like me.

Isn't it amazing how we let just one doubt in and the dominos all come tumbling down? And I love the fact that you were just conscientiously searching for information to back up your teaching to someone else, its not like you were looking for excuses to go and live a wild lifestyle, like the witnesses try to imply about everyone who leaves.

(no offense to you wild partiers out there - enjoy it!)

You sound so like me when you first started reading on here, some of the posts are so irreverant and critical of the GB, you feel really naughty, but can't help giggling (especially when it comes to the crazy antics of AMIII)

Where are you now? Are you fading/faded, do you still attend? How have your parents been? Sorry perhaps everyone else knows this. Any helpful tips about leaving quietly?

    Way to go!

Oh!, let me fix these for your father:

"Son, we have to ask ourselves, do we have faith that what the Bible says is true? If archeology conflicts with the Bible, we have to side with the scriptures." with the GB.

Great post Cappytan! I am so glad you and your wife are on the way out. I remember your work post about your boss talking to you and you opening up to him. I had something similar so I totally relate. It is just so hard to keep everything going smoothly as your entire belief system crumbles around you. I wasn't successful at helping my wife leave but there is always hope.

607 was the first big issue I researched as well.
