I have never known my mother to tell a lie. She will not lie outright, but gave us wonderful lessons in skirting around the truth. To me this is worse than outright lieing, this is being deceitful. One year on Christmas Eve she found $100 bill in the parking lot of the mall. She "reasoned" with us as to why she should keep the money. She ended up keeping it. Recently she needed her car inspected, but it would not pass inspection due to a crack in the windshield. My one sister knew someone who would pass her if he was slid an extra $20. My mother "reasoned" if my sister took it out and came back with a sticker, she had no idea how she got it, then it would be ok. The list goes on and one of the ways she will "reason" her way out of being outright dishonest. Think this will make the pages of Awake?

Sorry I hit post too quickly She actually thinks these small things are blessings from Jehovah. Can you imagine? lol Yes, Jehovah blessed you with your daughter finding an underhanded mechanic.

: One police officer even said: "If all people were Jehovah's Witnesses, who would commit crimes?"

Elders and other Watchtower leaders. They do it now in spite of secular laws. If THEY were the ONLY law, you can bank on it.

Yeah, imagine no extramarital affairs, people being ripped off financially, kids being abused or vandalism. Oh, wait a minute ... that's just the stuff that the JW's in our local congregation did ...

What a load of tosh - the JWs are at least as corrupt as everyone else (if not more). In itself this is not too reprehensible but when they try and portray themselves as being better than non JWs.

I wonder how many of these stories are printed because the WTS knows just how bad things are and this is their rather subtle to remind folks to behave themseves. I always wondered about that stuff too. Perhaps one did it - even more than one but they are I think the exception and that makes me sad.

I forget who posted about the pioneer who found a wallet and bragged about keeping it

With policies like Stategic War Strategy who needs laws? Obviously the WTS believes they are above all law - even God's

Most of them are made up. There are many stories about JW's in WW2 that are just plain Myth. There are also many modern day JW urban legends. The funny thing is they talk about other people as being superstitous and having to be careful not to believe in the knock on wood types of things but they are 10x worse. As for this particular story, I would say this may have happened but the order in which it is presented is contrived. I bet they would call it creative liscense. When I was a JW I did many dishonest things that I "reasoned" away. I feel shitty now and yes I'm glad I'm not a JW anymore either Bona Dea.

If they were truly honest, would they need to print so much telling how they are? And, wouldn't a true Christian just return the money, without any speeches? As a matter of fact, wouldn't any decent law abiding person just return the money and not make any claims about it?

The JWs claim to be so well known for their honesty, yet, each and every isolated incident as this makes prominent mention in their pubs. It tells me that their claims of being so well known are like the rest of their claims, just a bunch of hot air.

Isn't it rather disgusting that when they do behave in a Christian way they have to give a shot at preaching and get to count their time doing it?

Actually, if everyone was a JW then it's true, there would be no crimes ...

... well, there would be no police officers (not allowed) and if anyone did do something, however insociable, then it would not be reported and would be covered over.

Everything would appear to be ideal. At the end of the day, all they care about is appearances so they would have their 'paradise'.

It has been my feelings for some time that they print things like their stuff about protecting children against child abuse or their stuff encouraging others (everyone but themselves of course) to research their beliefs, to make it seem like they are not guilty. "Hey, would we really print an article about it, if we were doing it?"..kind of mentality. Someone explained what this was called (psychological term) on another thread a while back but I can't remember what they said.

the JWs are at least as corrupt as everyone else (if not more)

Spot on. I wish my husband could see this.

gsx1138...JWs are more superstitious than anyone or any other group of people I've (personally) ever met. I mean, they are even afraid to say "God bless you" or blow out some candles on a cake. I am so thankful that my conscience isn't so seared that I can see how harmless these things really are.
