Amazing
dmaouse: Thanks for the update. The trend seems to fit many western nations ... unless the Society can come up with something sensatinal, like they did prior to 1975, or maybe go mainstream ... then this downward trend for them is likely to continue.

If their average hours for publishers goes down much more I might have been in with a chance!!
8.7 per month! That is really low!!
Me thinks good little JWs are becoming very tired very fed up little JWs!
Have to see what the figures do after the annual "pepping up" talks at the district conventions!

I've taken the liberty of including the scan for April, thanks ignored one. The new figures are incorporated in the graph.
The decline continues

Nice one ex.
I never thought about baptisms. I'll have a look at them tomorrow for the UK and we can compare notes.

G'day Dmouse,
Thanks for posting this. Very interesting.
Baptism figs are perhaps the most significant of all, because there is a flow-on effect.
How's those figs looking?
Cheers, Ozzie (of the Freedom of Information class)

Let's not forget that around January, two significant changes occurred in the counting process: the 15 minute publisher, and the more aggressive report collection through the BS conductor. These two changes have resulted in slightly higher numbers since the beginning of the year.
At our district convention, the bethel speaker indicated that Canada would report a 2% increase this service year, yet baptisms are hanging in around 2000, the same as last year. It is impossible to add 2% to your total count if your new recruits are less than 2% (never mind about deaths and defections).
So, in the 2002 service report, we can expect to see a slight increase in JW numbers in developed countries. Then the decline will resume again next January.
