Thanks for the graphs - they really do help make the (rather dull) numbers mean something.

I tried putting the baptisms for the UK in a graph but they changed so wildly with each month it was difficult to see any trend.
However, if you take the total baptisms for each year for the last three years the decline in the UK is obvious:
1999 - 2765
2000 - 2590
2001 - 2418
And the first part of 2002 isn't looking too healthy either, well down on the first part of last year.
Dmouse: Can you dig up the baptisms for 1989? I think you will find an even more startling trend.
Running Man:
I wonder if the Canadian branch is counting on the "loving provision" of the 15-minute/month publisher to boost the average publishers by that 2% this year?
Thanks RM & dmouse for the cool graphs. They really are helpful.

You're right RM, baptisms reached their peak in 1989 with nearly 7000 that year!
Since then it has been a steady decline year after year.
I remember at assemblies back then we were asked NOT to applaud after each baptism otherwise we would never get through them all. At the assembly last year the baptisms were so few it was embarrassing, and we were asked to applaud each immersion.
Tee Hee.
Did anyone ever slip on the stairs on the way into the pool? God was that embarrassing! I also remember a total silence during the baptisms, out of respect. The last time I went a brother had to come out half way through and admonish the brothers for talking and eating during the whole thing! So, standards do fall in the JWs as well!
