Does Vodka have to be Russian

....... to be good? No! I have had Skyye Vodka, made in good old California, San Fran to be exact. Ketel One is from Holland and it seems to be smoother than Stoly...

Now I have heard that even Texas makes a vodka? Must be a rumor. Never heard of Texans drinking vodka, much less making it. Now if it was moonshine, then I'd believe it....

No, but it has to be kept in the freezer! (My rule)

Hah! Scoff if you want, but Tito's brand Vodka intends to make Austin TX every bit as gay as San Francisco, smoother than a dyke in Holland (?what the hell does that mean?), and, and,and.... (can't think of any back-handed superlatives for Russia).... drunk! Really, really drunk like a Russian pol.

No it does not have to. Just as well women does not have to come from certain country to be lovely. To my opinion it is only question of taste and availlability.

Smirnoff is, despite the Russian name, an American vodka. I drank quite a bit of it tonite, and it did the job fine (it helps that it is imported and marketed in Europe by Guinness, who makes my fav beers!)

The swedes make Absolut, and though I hate to admit anything good about swedes, it is a very good vodka, and the marketing has been supreme.

In Finland, they have a real love for vodka, and when you taste Finlandia or Koskenkorva, you know why.

Vodka is actually a Polish word, not Russian, and my all-time favorite vodka is the Wyborowa, which is Polish.

Of course, the Russians know how to make good vodka, like Moskovskaya.or Stolichnaya, but it is very hard to get here, strangly. It says something really bad about the Russian economy when they aren't even able to sell vodka to the world.

That is true, Mac. I was taught that by a Russian woman I once knew. It was drank straight and with the meals. The flavor is entirely different when stored in the freezer.

True enough. Whenever you drink something and you don't like the taste of it, freeze it.

What you describe is exactly what we do in Norway with our local spirit akevitt. It is the traditional drink along with the (heavy!) Christmas dinner we eat in western Norway. If the akevitt wasn't frozen, not even I could drink it
