It begins: "Our Father in the heavens, let your name be sanctified, " meaning hallowed, or made holy. Note that Jesus said to pray for God's name to be sanctified. To many people, that raises at least two questions. First, what is God's name? And second, why does it need to be sanctified?

Excuse me but I have my own opinion as to why the "MODEL" prayer was presented by Jesus in such a way.

Don't care if you agree or not.

    It's simple math.

Jesus expressed that a proper prayer would have an order to it.

When addressing God in prayer first give him the respect he diserves before proceeding to other things.

Let you name be santified is another way of saying give glory where glory is due before you start asking for stuff.

But the bible wouldn't be written in such a way nor would it read like a comic book.

First, what is God's name? And second, why does it need to be sanctified?

Third, why did Jesus say OUR FATHER and not Jehovah, or Yahweh, or YHWH, or Tom, or Dick, or Harry? Why didn't he mention the name in the FIRST PLACE?!

You think, that if the NAME WAS SOOOOOO IMPORTANT....there would be evidence of Jesus using it JUST ONCE in ALLLLL the NEW testament?

"Accurate Knowledge"...yet another JW phrase that is translated as to "Our arrogant opinion".

For anyone who is CURIOUS as to some information:

    http://www.newadvent.org/cathen/08329a.htm

    http://www.tyndale.cam.ac.uk/Scriptures/www.innvista.com/scriptures/compare/name.htm

Anyone else find it humorous that the WTBTS has taken a "interpretation" from a what they deem "christendom"? Better yet, from the favorite religion organization they love to bash?

Not to mention, the way the WTBTS TWIST the prayer:

    Our Father who is ( and/or which) in Heaven, hallowed be your name. { STOP }

You kingdom come. { STOP STOP STOP STOP } END OF SENTENCE, END OF SUBJECT.

Your Will be done IN IN IN IN earth. { STOP } Does it say the kingdom COME to earth? On Earth? Does it say anything here about any "kingdom" coming to/in/on/around earth??? NO! It says for God's WILL TO BE DONE! What is God's "will"? To be praised and acknowledged.

Rest of prayer etc. etc. etc. blah blah blah.

There is no SECRET knowledge, or hidden message.

It's funny. 1,860 years, and the only people to start preaching this are the JW's. No where else is there any record of ANYONE giving an interpretation or opinion of this "paradise earth" crap.

You think, that if there was going to be this "paradise earth"....JESUS CHRIST would of been SPECIFIC about it. Then again, the WTBTS likes to twist this around now, don't they? Read in to something that isn't there, to fit their theology and doctrine.

    Ah hell...what's point? These "Self Righteous-Intollerant-Elitist-Bigots" JW's won't listen.

But, if there is any lurkers who are "studying" or "looking for info"....I guess perhaps they will consider another point of view.

    Bleep,

You remind me of a three year old trying to potty-train his father. Most people on this site know their WTS doctrines far better than the majority of JW's and most definately better than you, judging from your past efforts, they simply choose to discard all the pieces that require an allegiance to the chewing-gum theology that the WTS churn out.

Dig beneath the surface Bleep, do some real research, use some logic and reasoning in reaching conclusions. Get yourself a library card and start educating yourself. Your pap is of no value here.

A spell check is useful as well.

Bleep, if it is the name that is so all fired important, then why didn't God or Jesus ensure that sacred name was kept known through history to today? Can a name really be sanctified when it was forgotten long ago?

Yahweh, Jehovah, Yehowah and the other thought to be pronunciations are just that, thought to be's

"Taken from the book, SACRED ORIGINS OF PROFOUND THINGS, The Stories Behind the Rites and Rituals of the Worlds Religions, by Charles Panati, 1996

"JEHOVAH" AS A CORRUPTION OF YAHWEH:
    SIXTEENTH CENTURY C.E.

Jehovah is a much later name for God, and a false rendering of Moses' original tongue twister, YHWH.

The Jewish Masorete scribes, who labored from the sixth to the tenth centuries C.E. to reproduce the correct Hebrew text of their Bible, the Tanakh (which has the same material as the Christian Old Testament but presents it in a slightly different order), combined the unpronounceable YHWH with vowels from two popular old Hebrew terms for God: Adonai and Elohim --- arriving at YeHoWaH, which Renaissance Christians rendered as Jehovah. This form made its way into the King James Bible.

Had the word "Yahweh" been spoken before Moses heard it on Mount Sinai?

Linguists tell us that Yahweh was one of many names for a primary pagan "god" known to all the ancient Semitic peoples before the birth of monotheism. The tribe of Levi, to which Moses belonged, knew the word and was aware that it often was voiced in a shortened form as a sacred invocation -- Yo!, or Yah!, or Yahu! -- like a mantra. Curiously, the name of Moses' mother was Jochebed -- or Yokheved -- a word that is derived from Yahweh. Was there an echo of a more ancient matriarchal era in God's spoken name to Moses?"

You missed a major point. You didn't explain the wt application of the first two words of the prayer. They are, 'our father'. Here are some wt quotes that show jehovah is father only to the anointed. Only 144000 of mankind can rightly call jehovah abba father.

    --------

    *** it-1 1163 Husband ***
In view of the fact that the ancient nation of Israel was bound to Jehovah by means of the Law covenant, God was their "husbandly owner." (Jer 3:14) The apostle Paul speaks of Jehovah as the Father of anointed Christians, his spiritual sons, and of "the Jerusalem above" as their mother, indicating that Jehovah considers himself a husband to this Jerusalem.-Ga 4:6, 7, 26; compare Isa 54:5.

    *** w95 7/1 11 Christian Witnesses With Heavenly Citizenship ***
7 As adopted sons of God, these chosen Christians became brothers of Jesus Christ. (Romans 8:16, 17; 9:4, 26; Hebrews 2:11) Since Jesus proved to be the Seed promised to Abraham, these spirit-anointed Christians are an associate, or subsidiary, part of that Seed, which would confer a blessing upon believing mankind. (Genesis 22:17, 18; Galatians 3:16, 26, 29) What blessing? The opportunity of being redeemed from sin and reconciled to God and of serving him now and for eternity. (Matthew 4:23; 20:28; John 3:16, 36; 1 John 2:1, 2) Anointed Christians on earth point righthearted ones to this blessing by bearing witness to their spiritual brother Jesus Christ and to their adoptive Father, Jehovah God.-Acts 1:8; Hebrews 13:15.

    *** w92 4/15 10 Citizen or Foreigner, God Welcomes You! ***
16 What future do spiritual Israelites have in God's purpose? Jesus answered: "Have no fear, little flock, because your Father has approved of giving you the kingdom." (Luke 12:32) Anointed ones, whose "citizenship exists in the heavens," will be joint heirs with the Lamb in his Kingdom rule. (Philippians 3:20; John 14:2, 3; Revelation 5:9, 10) The Bible indicates that these are 'sealed out of the sons of Israel' and "bought from among mankind as firstfruits to God and to the Lamb." They number 144,000. However, after giving the account of this number being sealed, John introduces a different group-"a great crowd, which no man was able to number, out of all nations and tribes and peoples and tongues."-Revelation 7:4, 9; 14:1-4.
