Ironic the scenario you faced. My guess is the guy who felt compelled to tell on you was saving his own skin. By his "confession" and "admission" and then telling on you, the brothers gave him a pat on the back for being "spiritually mature" enough to come forward.

How do I know this? Because I have been there and done that with the JW's.
