Okay . . .I just got off the phone with the show's producer and the show is NOT Oprah. It is a new show called The Dr. Phil show on NBC. The weird thing is I emailed on the Oprah website. They want to do a show on exiting high control religions and cults. She said that they are putting that show together for a few months from now.
I was all geared-up to meet Oprah. What do you guys think?
Oh my God, what an opportunity!!! You should definitely do it!! Do they need others for the program? I'd go in a heartbeat!!

I'll have to disagree with the comment of "not bringing in Bill Bowen." I understand that the shunning you have experience was due to "not living up to all that a JW is supporsed to be." Would this include not supporting the WTS by openly expressing your views about their shunning policy and well as the way child abuse cases are handled?
Because if the fact that you spoke out plays a role in the shunning that you have been subjected to, that would be the perfect tie in for having Bill Bowen or Barbara there as well.
Just some thoughts.

Thanks for the extra info Prisila. Notice everyone, the show is about exiting high control groups. Not what's wrong with those various groups or why you're leaving, just about what happens when you try to leave them. Trying to bring someone else along to talk about something that has absolutely nothing to do with the show sounds rather pointless to me.
No the elders and congregation we went to inluding relatives just think we've gotten cold spiritually. They believe we are too tired and working too hard. This is what WE have said. We have only told one JW, my aunt, and she hasn't said anything, I suspect. Our stance on the information in COC and simply not believeing anymore AND the CHild Abuse issue have NOT been disclosed YET.

I just read your profile. You have what it takes. You have already taken the initiative to write to the show, you ask us for advice and much good advice has been given.
Tell them where you are at. If you're nervous, say that you are nervous, if you need someone with you on the show for moral support then tell them. Let them take the lead as to what they want to present or not. If you are apprehensive about the consequences of being on the show then inform them. Tell them what the reactions of your friends and families in the JWs will mean for you. Your life is real drama, that is what they know viewers are interested in. Tell them your thoughts, your feelings, your desires for yourself, your children and your husband.
You can do it, with the help of the universe and all the people on this forum and elsewhere who will lovingly back you up.

What an incredible opportunity!!! It seems so astounding and has the potential for so much good. I always think about the saying: "The saddest words ever penned are 'what might have been?'" Meaning if you let an opportunity slip thru your fingers, you may regret it the rest of your life. If you don't go out on a limb, you won't get the fruit.

I think that you should still go or at least put Bill in touch with them. Since he has been df'd for no reason.They are trying to control him and what he is saying. This is an effort to prove to all JW's that he is an apostate so they will turn a blind eye and deaf ear to anything he has to say. The loss of family is what we all lose in deciding to leave whether we are df'd or not. I think you should still go!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
