HMTM, Put her before yourself.
I agree with everything you wrote except putting the mother before herself.
That's the problem with this religion. It makes people deny themselves.

I understand your feelings completely but you have to remember this only annoys you because you choose to let it. It's only a piece of paper toss it out, (tear it to shreds if it makes you fell better) scan the note for anything newsworthy and go on about your day. Send your Mom a newsy note or card and say nothing about the brochure.
As you said, your Mom is not well and one day when she is not here you will have the satisfaction of knowing you behaved decently toward her even though she (unlike Jesus) is pushing her beliefs down your throat. If you catch yourself mulling this problem over an hour or a day later, dismiss it from your head....change channels and think of something more pleasant.
My mother used to send letters all the time. I told her I just tear them up and throw them away and to stop wasting your time because I don't read them.
Oubliette,
You are getting stuck in the religion. A good father or mother puts their children before themselves. There is nothing wrong with a good son or daughter putting their elderly parent before themselves. Especially so if that parent was a loving parent.
Many, many people who were never JWs put their elderly parents needs before their own. To bring an elderly father or mother home to live with oneself is a sacrifice which requires putting our parents before ourselves. Changing diapers, giving baths, listening to the same story a thousand times, and much more, is a sacrifice of love many selfless grown children provide for parents who are in need.
To simply be patient with an old woman's belief is by comparison a miniscule sacrifice for a grown adult.

Can anyone see something I can't, since I'm flustered, as to how to get her to quit mailing piles of JW materials, without tipping her off and getting shunned?
If she`s like most JW parents, shes never going to stop....It`s all they know..
You`l have to deal with her, like you would anyone with a mental handicap..
Patience..
If your mother is really elderly and desperate....and you have this relationship with Jesus and are happy......then why are you even letting it get to you? Give you elderly mother a break. Its coming from a place of love. She isn't the watchtower brand. She is just your mom.
If you want you can call her, thank her for thinking of you, but let her know that you won't read it. I offered my mom a deal once. I'll read whatever you want sincerely and with an open mind, if I can send you some critical literature I already have verified isn't full of misquotes and untruths, and she can do the same.
We already know where that goes. then change the subject. Talk about life, your family....the things her authentic self want to really talk about anyways. I find the conversations always go JW when there is nothing else to talk about!
HMTM: Oubliette, You are getting stuck in the religion.
Um, no. That's what the OP is about.
HMTM: A good father or mother puts their children before themselves.
Don't tell me, tell Virgochik's mother!
Whenever you speak to your Mother, discuss anything besides religion. Redirect the conversation to
family life
Virgochick: So how's aunt X doing?
Virgochick's Mom: She is having a tough time with her two boys. They are so rebellious. You know, if only she took the Truth seriously all those problems could have been avoided. Jehovah's organization has given us so many wonderful publications to improve our family life. When we do things Jehovah's way it always turns out well for us. But when we don't . . .
tv shows
Virgochick: So Mom, have you been watching any interesting TV shows lately?
Virgochick's Mom: Oh yes. I've been looking at the best TV shows out there - the shows on JW broadcasting. Do you know the society now has its own tv channel? They have wonderful monthly programs hosted by a member of the Governing Body. They are so very encouraging! Have you seen them? You should go to jw.org and you'll see a link on there somewhere, I don't know exactly how to get to it - but I watch them at the kingdom hall every month.
movies
Virgochick: Seen any good movies?
Virgochick's Mom: Yes, I recently saw 'Return of the prodigal son'. That was such a wonderful movie. That was produced by the society, you know. Can you imagine, Virgochick, they're now making movies! Jehovah's chariot is certainly moving ahead! Those not with the chariot are certainly missing out on a lot . . .
books
Virgochick: Read any good books?
Virgochick's Mom: But of course, sweetie. You of all persons should know that Jehovah's Witnesses are the reading-est people on the planet! What with all the magazines and other publications the society provides for our spiritual nourishment on a regular basis. A good one I read recently is called 'Return to Jehovah'. I'll be sure to mail you a copy . . .
politics
Virgochick: what do you think of Hilary Clinton's chances of winning in 2016?
Virgochick's Mom: Whether she wins or loses matters not to me. All I know is that God's Kingdom is the only hope to solve man's problems and no system of government - be it autocracy, democracy, communism, socialism, sharia law, ISIS or feminocracy - can ever solve man's problems!
world events, news
Virgochick: What do you think about what ISIS is doing in the middle east?
Virgochick's Mom: Oh they're terrible! Slaughtering men women and children, fomenting warfare - and they have the gall to claim they're doing God's will! Can you imagine Jehovah ever instructing his worshipers to commit such horrible atrocities? But what do you expect from Babylon the Great! Those evil people are proof positive that we must be living deep in the time of the end. It is inconceivable that Jehovah will allow this evil system to go on much longer. You really need to return to Jehovah, Virgochick, while there is still time . . .
jokes games, entertainment, gossip, music, work, exercise, health... Whatever you would talk about with a Non-JW friend.
Virgochick: Wow Mom, look how late it is already! My how time flies! It's been so nice talking to you but I must leave now . . .
Virgochick's Mom: But Sweety, we haven't yet talked about jokes, games, gossip, music, work, exercise, health . . . whatever you would talk about with your non-JW friends . . .
