Huh? They were not any truer in 1984. I think the videos will definitely help the org avoid any unique understandings getting out out there by questionable brothers and sisters. Thecpriblem for them is that the GB is the source of the wackiness teachings.

I believe Punk was making a reference to George Orwell's seminal novel, Nineteen Eighty-Four and the Newspeak concept of using propaganda to control the masses.

Videos at conventions and standard weekly meetings too. These all reinforce the message that only official presentations are necessary to "fully" explain doctrine and policy. Rank and file do not need to become schooled up on explaining anything themselves.

That also explains why JWs refer interested prople to jw.org for explanations say, of how they arrive at 1914. Time was when a fair few brothers snd sisters in each congregation could ptovide informed accounts of beliefs and policies.

There has always been a dearth of good speakers at assemblies/conventions so many bad ones bored us and embarrassed us if we brought non-jws. They can use the same few ones on videos and entertain the masses. Why did Rome entertain the masses, to keep them from rebelling. Speakers tended to go off script some, especially the so-called GB speakers. This way everyone gets the same message.

I agree Steve. I think in the coming years we will see a more of this, as the organization becomes more centralized, and there becomes less room for individual movement.
