One of the most ingrained things for long time Witnesses to change their viewpoint on is the FDS. I believe that due to the constant information at the meetings, conventions, publications and elder's talks, the doctrine of the faithful slave is pounded into everyone's heads.Once a person sees the misunderstanding of this teaching, it's easier to critically see the wrongness of the Watchtower. Can you suggest easier, less complicated rebuttals to this doctrine?

I can't see how anyone could read Crisis of Conscience without seeing the "faithfull slave" for what it is.

Here's how I see it. The account of the FDS was an illustration Jesus used to get a concept across to his diciples. He used several illustrations in and around this context. These stories were used to get across the idea that his followers should always be diligent and responsible whether their "master" was present or not. Therefore, the FDS does not "represent" anything today as far as any organization goes, never has, never will. Rather it represents people who heed the concepts embedded in these illustrations, not any organized group as such.

Because they're assholes, that's why. No "Faithful and Discreet Slave" should be assholes. Yet, they're assholes, so they can't be any "Faithful and Discreet Slave."

UNFaithful phony slaves, yes. INdiscreet and lying slaves, yes. Assholes? Yes. But no "Faithful and Discreet Slaves."

That is of course assuming that Jesus doesn't want assholes representing him.

I'm not entirely sure why, but I get the impression that Farkel thinks the FDS are a bunch of assholes.

What I found odd was that JC would appoint 'them' as a FDS in 1919...when they did not even know he came as King in 1914. They believed in all sorts of stuff back then..xmas, birthdays, smoking, war (!)..They realised JC came as king in 1914 in 1943(?)....but they were good enough to be a FDS back in 1919.........when the FDS was a person ...the president not anything else. Just crap of the purest kind.

Yes, they are a bunch of assholes....but I know that the "slave" is bologna, but when I have talked to certain receptive friends and family about , the faithful and discreet slave, the Society viewpoint clouds their understanding. Now I could tell them very simply ala Farkel that they shouldn't believe in the slave because they're a bunch of assholes but I think a different approach might get better results.....but, who knows?
